AGUON LEADS PANTHERS IN WIN

Guam High’s reigning IIAAG Football MVP quarterback L.J. Aguon has been itching to play football all week long after their game against the Sanchez Sharks got cancelled last weekend. The Panthers defeated the GW Geckos Friday at the GW field 20-8 with Aguon having a hand in all three of their touchdowns.

“We just had to do out job and everyone has to execute on the same level. I told my line when we are in rhythm, do not worry and get your job done and we will execute in the backfield,’ stated Aguon.

The Geckos were down 12-0 heading into the fourth quarter and had visited the red zone just once all game. Geckos running back Hank Sablan then took a hand off and for 30 yards while brining life back to the GW crowd. Quarterback Brenden Santos then punched the ball in a play later while converting the 2-point conversion to trim the lead 12-8.

The Panthers holding on to the slim lead with four minutes left to go in the fourth quarter and facing a long 3rd down when Aguon took a snap in shotgun and tossed the first down completion to receiver Austy Hines.

The Panthers then marched down the field and allowed Aguon to score the games final touchdown on a quarterback sneak to seal the game.

Both teams struggled in the first quarter going scoreless, but Aguon and electrifying receiver Terry Geller III sparked the Panther offense immediately in the second quarter, connecting on a 45-yard touchdown pass. Aguon and Geller III connected again in the same quarter on a 65-yard pass, giving Geller III an whopping 110 yards on just two catches.

“That’s my boy. All three of my receivers are ‘go-to-guys’ but he executes the most. He broke his leg in Okinawa and was out all last year and me and him have been anxious to play,” stated Aguon on Geller III. The pair are aiming for a record breaking performance this year that was set by previous Panther quarterback Paul Floyd.

“Me and [Geller III] are aiming to break Paul’s 4-touchdown’s in one game record, but I told [Geller III] we’re going to lay off that today.”

Guam High led 6-0 at the half.

GW responded well in the third quarter as they marched to the 30-yard line with steady running from Sablan. The momentum changed when Santos threw an interception near the red zone, erasing the chance at the tie.

Guam High responded on the following drive with Aguon hitting Juwan Jacobs on a screen plan for a 35-yard touchdown to go up 12-0. Aguon then prevented the Geckos from getting the ball back with enough time for a comeback in the final four minutes of the game.

Both teams were awarded a victory last weekend since their opponents forfeited which makes Guam High 2-0 while GW drops to 1-1.
