ANGELS FLIP THE SCRIPT

A tale of two halves brought forth a thrilling comeback in the last game of the Budweiser Football League as the Angels scored 22 unanswered second half points to beat the Eagles 22-12 at the Eagle field on Sunday.

The Eagles started the fourth quarter at the Angels one yard line looking to put the game away already up 12-8 until Angels defensive back Joel Limtiaco jumped over the offensive line, stripped the ball from Eagles quarterback Joe Terlaje while recovering the ball, getting the defensive “trifecta” to keep the Angels within a single possession.

The momentum swinging play carried on through the Angel offense with Mike Pangelinan gutting the Eagles front seven for two consecutive first down runs that took more than half the quarter. Ryan Bigler also aided in the run support breaking free for a 20-yard run that put the Angels in scoring position.

With a little more than four minutes left to play, the Angels turned to quarterback Steve Phillips who hit Bigler wide open in the end zone after running a post pattern. The Angels took their first lead of the game at 14-12 and extended it to 16-12 after the two-point conversion from Bigler.

The following Eagles drive was stopped short off an interception by Phillips who also played on the defensive side of the ball.

After a flurry of Eagles timeouts, the Phillips went for the game clincher hitting Issu Mendiola on a screen play who went untouched into the end zone to bump the lead to 22-12 completing the comeback and eventually ending the game.

The Eagles rode a great first half performance from Reginal Baylor who caught the Angel secondary off guard with a 45-yard catch and sprint to the end zone in the first quarter. Eagles running back Roosevelt Badgett was also key in their offense after picking up chunks of yards when handed the ball but an injury he suffered midway through the third quarter kept him out of the game.

Terlaje scored the second touchdown for the Eagles in the first quarter off a QB sneak but had a tough time rallying the squad after being sacked seven times in the second half.

This was the last game for both teams wrapping up a fun and entertaining BFL. There will be no playoffs in the BFL and the Raiders, as the lone unbeaten team in the league, clinch the championship!
