BOMBERS WIN SPRING MADNESS TOURNEY

PRESS RELEASE – The 2012 Spring Madness Regional Men’s Basketball Tournament came to an end after an intense five days of back-to-back games for the 10 participating teams at the Coral Reef Fitness & Sports Complex located in Andersen Air Force Base.

 The awards presentation took place on May 29 with the Andersen Bombers A team taking first place followed by Kadena Air Force Jets, Okinawa at second and Tamuning Typhoons, Guam with third place. Bombers Michael Evans and James Peterson were named Co-MVP’s.  Receiving the sportsmanship award were the RCB Rebels from Saipan.

The all tournament team were announced and received their awards for outstanding play throughout the tournament games. All-tournament team selection included Joe Blas-Tamuning Typhoons, Dykes Lopez-Camp Covington, Gene Siner-Zama Army Base, Rod Martin-Osan Air Base, Ryant Johnson-Misawa Air Base, Asa Brinson-Bombers B, Michael Evans, James Peterson, Chris Thomas, Ledgit Glover, Ollie Bradley with Andersen Bombers A, Raymond King, Adam Stephenson, Terrence Terrell and Page Vaughn with Kadena Air Base.

“Overall the tournament was a success and the teams did a great job competing on the court. We look forward to our next tournament during the July 4th weekend,” stated tournament coordinator Gerrard Barnes.

QUICK HITS

Guam national golf team player Aki Matsuno secured second place at the FCG Hawaii World Series championship.

Matsuno’s second place finish earned him an invitation to compete in the FCG Junior Golf Championship to be held in July 2025.

A junior at St. John’s, he is also currently leading the IIAAG high school All-Island golf competition, chasing the coveted individual high school golf title.

Guam Blooded: College freshman Brianne Graves is currently ranked 5th in the nation in the 103-lb DI women’s wrestling rankings. She just beat the defending All-American.
Bri finished high school in Cincinnati, ranked #2 in the nation before signing with North Central College, which is one of the top wrestling teams in the country.
Her Evangelista grandparents are originally from Yigo.
