The Southern Cowboys ousted the Eagles 26-6 Sunday afternoon at Eagle field in the Metgot division of the GNYFF youth football league. Cowboy’s Gabriel Stanley led his team to victory, scoring all four of the game’s touchdowns.

“I felt hyped up coming into this game,” said Stanley.

The rush of adrenaline building up inside was finally unleashed at the shriek of the whistle. Stanley wasted no time, picking up a fumble in the opening kickoff and returning it for the first touchdown of the game.

Stanley struck again; running in his second touchdown of the first quarter on a reverse play to put his team up 12-0.

Leading 19-0 at half time, the Cowboys had built up a comfortable lead. However, Stanley was not done yet. After receiving a 15-yard pass, Stanley booked it 40 yards to the end zone for his fourth and final touchdown. Jared Stanley Gomez ran in the extra point making the score 26-0.

Determined to get points on the board, the Eagles worked their way down the field using short, quick passes to Davin Mojica. With only a few minutes remaining in the game, quarterback Andrew Francisco faked the handoff and ran wide right, scoring an 11-yard touchdown. Though still down twenty points, the Eagles sidelines burst into cheers for their team.

Stanley Speaks

His four years playing football along with putting in the hard work at practice are not the only factors behind Stanley’s success.

“My family encourages me.”

In earning a win over the Eagles, Stanley looks at the rest season with high hopes.

“I feel good about today’s win, hopefully we can take it all the way.”
