A shootout ensued in the Matua division against he Cowboys and Angels as both teams exploded for 69 combined points with the Cowboys scoring late touchdowns to defeat the Angels 39-30 in their Saturday afternoon matchup.
Both teams were coming in with stellar records with the Cowboys at 4-0 and the Angels at 3-1. With only a single loss between the two teams, fans expected a great game and got just that from the opening kick off to the final play of the game.
Cowboys running back Kam’ron Tenorio stole the show late, scoring the final two deciding touchdowns for his team from 20 and 40 yards out to extend their lead to three possessions. The Angels would score late in the quarter but the Cowboy defense came up with a game ending interception to final the score.
Tenorio ran for three touchdowns to lead the team in scoring while Angels quarterback Ivan Quidachay and Angels running back Sean Gomez had a pair of touchdowns each.
Cowboys quarterback Gaven Leon Guerrero tossed the first touchdown for his team while Quidachay answered back with a touchdown pass of his own. Tenorio then punched in his first score a drive later with an Angels defender on his back.
Travis Concepcion followed up Tenorio’s run with a 5-yard touchdown pass on their following drive.
The Cowboys led 19-14 at the half and came out just as strong in the second half with the help of Tenorios work on the ground.
Gomez scored all of his touchdowns in the second half but the comeback was held short thanks to a stingy Cowboy defense.
The Cowboys stay undefeated at 5-0 while the Angels drop to 3-2.
