TEAMS SENT TO LOSER’S BRACKET

PRESS RELEASE – Playoffs continued in the 2013 Guam Seniors Spring Baseball League (GSSBL) at Paseo Stadium on Friday, August 9, 2013. After beating the Payless Typhoons on Thursday night, 11-10, the sixth-seeded Palau Masters tried to advance in the Double-Elimination format but were turned back down to the losers’ bracket after the Agat Cardinals came from behind to beat the Palau Masters, 10-8.

Agat’s Rick Tedtaotao was 2-for-2, a triple, and three runs. Vince Villasoto was 2-for-4, a double, two RBI, and a run. Roland Cruz was 2-for-4, an RBI, and two runs. For Palau, Roman Beches was 2-for-3, a triple, and three runs. Milton N. went 3-for-4, two RBI, and a run.

The fifth seed Tutuha Twins came off a win on Thursdaysqueezing by the number 3 seed, Padres, 14-13, but it was short-lived as the top seed Guahan jumped out to a quick 12-0 lead after just one inning to close the door on the Twins sending them down to the losers’ bracket with a 22-2 pounding. Guahan’s Peter Aguon hit a Grand Slam in the bottom of the first. Keith Hattig slammed a three-run home run in the bottom of the second; Eloy Fujikawa followed two batters later with a solo shot. Hattig hit another three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to cap the win. Guahan got the 10-Run rule win after five innings and advances to take on the Agat Cardinals on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 5:00 p.m.

On Saturday, August 10, 2013, at 5:00 p.m., Losers’ Bracket playoff action will get underway with the Padres facing the Palau Masters. At 7:45 p.m., it’s the Payless Typhoons meeting up with the Tatuha Twins. The season will continue on Sunday, August 11, 2013 with Winners’ Bracket action at 5:00 p.m., and 7:45pm. All games played at Paseo Stadium.

QUICK HITS

The JFK Islanders won the first ever Memorial Weekend High School Basketball Tournament.

The All-Tournament selection were Zhion Macapinlac JFK, Darwin Ecijan JFK, Matthew Quinata Southern, and Malcom Fernandez Tiyan.

JFK’s Collin Rillamas was named tournament MVP.

The Prospects captured the Guam PONY Colt Spring Baseball League (14-16) championship Saturday with a masterful 2-0 win over the Smokies.
Pitchers Gavin Alcantara (5 innings) and Javier Taimanglo (2 innings) combined to throw a no-hitter.
Taimanglo and Juan Carlo Presnell drove in the two runs for the Prospects, and Skyler Paulino had two hits.
