Middle School League

IMS Warriors 8, F.B. Leon Guerrero Astros 6

Middle School Baseball action continued Saturday with the IMS Warriors taking in the F.B. Astros.  Isaiah Nauta would launch a long homerun in the bottom of the 5th inning to help the Warriors score 5 runs and comeback to beat the Astros 8-6.

The Astros would take the lead in the top of the 3rd inning with Sigfrido Sanchez’s second homer of the game putting the Astros on top 6-1.

Nauta would get his team going on offense also as the Warriors would rally for 5 runs in the 5th inning to take a 7-6 lead.  Joshawn Sablan would lead off the inning with a double to start the rally and Isaiah Nauta would launch a bases clearing homerun to cap the rally.

The Warriors would add a run for insurance in the 6th inning and the Warriors would hold on for the 8-6 win to stay unbeaten 2-0-1 in the Middle School Baseball League with two wins and one tie.   Nauta notches the win allowing no hits and no runs over 3 innings for the Warriors.   Darian Tajalle chipped in two hits on offense.

Josh Calvo was 2-3 with 2 stolen bases and Sanchez was 2-2 with 2 homers as the Astros drop to 1-2 on the season.

Bishop Obispos 10, Anderson Storm 5

In other action the Bishop Obispos slugged out 10 runs to take down the Bishop Obispos 10-5.   The Obispos’ Auron Eclavea was 2-3 with two doubles and two runs.  Starting pitcher Cooper Paulino picks up the win for the Obispos.  The Obispos improve to 2-1 on the season.  The Storm’s Jake Smith had a break out game going 3-4 with a long homerun, double and two runs scored in the loss.  Curtis Bukikosa was 2-3 in the loss as the Storm fall to 0-2-1.

Youth League

Agana Heights Cougars 5, Yona Redhawks 4

In Friday night action the Agana Heights Cougars and Yona Redhawks matched up in the Youth 9-12 Baseball League.  The Cougars would stage a last inning comeback scoring the tying run and walking off with the winning run for a 5-4 win over the Yona Redhawks.

The Redhawks would take the lead scoring 4 runs in the 3rd inning with rbi singles by Koby Martinez and Manny Babauta giving them a 4-1 lead.

The Cougars would push two runs across in the 4th inning to cut the lead to 4-3 with AJ Guerrero doubling in Frank Manibusan and Rico Castro.  In the 6th inning Guerrero would again be the hero driving in Castro again with the game winning run giving the Cougars a 5-4 win.

Guerrero finished the game 2-2 with two rbi and Castro was 1-1 with a triple and 2 runs scored.  Castro also picks up the win with 2 innings of scoreless relief.

Cougars improve to 1-0 on the season and the Redhawks even their record at 1-1.

Agana Heights Cougars 6, Agana Heights Jaguars 4

The Cougars came back Sunday for a weekend doubleheader to take on the Agana Heights Jaguars in 9-12 Baseball League action.  The Cougars would hold off a 6th inning Jaguars rally to hold on to a 6-4 win.

The Cougars would score 3 runs in the 2nd inning jumping out to a 4-1 lead.  Run scoring doubles by Roen Brantley and Aiden McDonald would pace the Cougars offense. The Cougars would add two more runs in the 5th inning with David Eclavea rbi single giving the Cougars a 6-2 lead going into the 6th inning.

The Redhawks would rally in the 6th inning with Gus Sablan leading off with a single and coming into score on a single by Michael Castro also scoring Tobi Andrew who had singled.  But Cougars reliever would get a strikeout and ground out to end the rally and the Cougars would hold on to the 6-4 win.

Cougars improve to 2-0 on the season and the Jaguars are still looking for their first win of the season at 0-3.

Yigo Astros 3, Yona Redhawks 1

Astro’s Devin Miner and Redhawk’s Gavin Mendiola would lock up in a great pitchers duel with both pitchers going the distance.  The Astros and Miner would come out on top holding off a late Redhawks rally for a 3-1 win.

The Astros would push a run across in the 1st inning with Trey Concepcion coming in to score on a single by Devin Miner.  The Astros would continue their offense in the 2nd inning with Josh Sablan hustling out a triple and Ethan Palma singling and coming around to score to give the Astros a 3-0 lead.

The Redhawks would manage to score a run in the 6th inning but Miner would strikeout the last two batters of the game to preserves the 3-1 win.  Miner finishes with 13 strikeouts as the Astros improve to 2-0 on the season.

Redhawks Gavin Mendiola was equally as impressive fanning 11 hitters in 6 innings.  The Redhawks drop to 1-2 on the season.

Guam Blooded: Jared Quenga signs with the McNeese State Cowboys in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
A highly-touted DB in high school, Quenga spent his first year in junior college after sustaining a severe injury after his senior year playing rugby.
Now back in top form, Quenga gets his D1 call to play with the Cowboys.

Guam national golf team player Aki Matsuno secured second place at the FCG Hawaii World Series championship.

Matsuno’s second place finish earned him an invitation to compete in the FCG Junior Golf Championship to be held in July 2025.

A junior at St. John’s, he is also currently leading the IIAAG high school All-Island golf competition, chasing the coveted individual high school golf title.
