SINGLETARY MEETS THE FANS

Bears Hall of Fame linebacker Mike Singletary met with the media and fans Thursday morning at the Hilton Tree bar during his short stay on Guam.

It’s not every day Guam gets visited by a Hall of Fame athlete which is why Bears longtime linebacker, and former head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, Mike Singletary’s visit is a great deal thanks to St. Paul’s Paul Pineda. Singletary is here to be a motivational speaker at the St. Paul graduation Saturday which will conclude his short stay as he will be leaving Sunday morning.

Singletary met with the media Thursday morning at the Hilton Tree Bar and allowed some of his fans on to take pictures and sign paraphernalia.

Members of the media openly asked Singletary what are some of the topics he will be discussing to the students during the graduation and Singletary spoke strongly on being a man of God.

“I am a man of God and It’s important to let the students know that they stay committed to whatever they choose to do. The opportunity to speak to the youth is the main reason why I came here in the first place,” stated the Hall of Famer.

Singletary was accompanied by his son Matt who also went to Baylor University.

Matt was just as excited to come to Guam as Mike and has admitted that watching his father become an emotional leader for so many people has made their time together more special than football.

Singletary told stories about growing up and explained that his mother has always been his greatest source for inspiration.

“I like heroes, like superman, and my hero has always been my mother,” said Singletary when a fan asked who inspired him the most.

Singletary also shared stories behind the scenes during the NFL draft, views on concussion, and even commented on the buzz surrounding the St. Luis Rams 249th pick Michael Sam, who is the first openly gay athlete to get drafted into the professional leagues.

“The only thing I would be concerned about when drafting a player is whether or not they can help the team win. Jeff Fisher [Rams coach] is smart and he knows what he is doing.”
