AA SWIMMERS DO WELL AT JR. OLYMPICS

PRESS RELEASE – The 2024 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympic Games kicked off with a bang, bringing together nearly 15,000 young athletes from across the nation to compete in a display of grit, dedication, and team spirit in Greensboro, North Carolina. Among the participants, close to 1,000 talented swimmers made waves competing in over 70 individual events and relays.

12 & under swimmers Matua Camacho, Tanom Camacho, Demi Blu Hurchanik, Logan Jun, Nina Lee, Hyemi Reyes, Gabriel Rodriguez, and Naiatea Wooley joined their 13 & over counterparts Logan Gandaoli, Mia Lee, John Moore IV, Keana Santos, and Isla Rodriguez with Amphibious Aquatics Guam. All thirteen swimmers qualified and competed in the 2024 Junior Olympic Games.

Athletes from more than 40 states and territories, including Washington D.C., Guam, and Puerto Rico, gathered to showcase their skills in a variety of events including track and field, gymnastics, martial arts, field hockey and swimming. Swimming events began on July 24-25, 2024 with swimmers aged 12 and under diving into the pools, setting the stage for the first two days of exhilarating competition. 

“Qualifying for this prestigious event is a remarkable accomplishment, and their outstanding results are a reflection of their confidence, conditioning and skill,” said Amphibious Head Coach Andy Lee. “Congratulations to all the swimmers, and Si Yu’os Ma’åse’ to their families and our coaching team for their invaluable support. This is just the beginning of many great achievements to come, and we are excited to see what the future holds for these exceptional young athletes.”

In addition to thirteen individual medals, the girls 12 & under 4 x 50m freestyle relay team of Nina Lee, Naiatea Wooley, Demi Blu Hurchanik and Hyemi Reyes clinched a spot on the podium, edging out over 30 teams for 8th place with a time of 2:17.34. Additionally, Naiatea Wooley and Logan Jun were commended by Amphibious Aquatics for their outstanding dedication and hard work, leading to remarkable improvements in their personal records. Most notably, Logan Jun dropped 6.72 seconds in his 100m Freestyle with a new personal record of 1:27.90; Naiatea Wooley dropped 10.23 seconds in her 100m Backstroke with a new personal record of 1:28.45.
