BLAS TAKES ON GREECE ROAD RACE

Guam champion prepares for long cycling race

PRESS RELEASE – No stranger to high level cycling, Guam Cycling Federation is so proud to share that our back-to-back Guam National Champion for road cycling, Blayde Blas, is racing and training in the beautiful country of Greece. Grand Price Rhodes is a 200km road race on the historic island and this is Blas’s second year to experience it.

When asked how his preparation went for Greece, Blas commented, “My preparation for this race was really good. This was the first year I got to have a race calendar planned so I could have an idea of how to peak when I needed it…

The racing here is at such a high level. Some of these guys I raced here last year are now racing on the World Tour level. So they don’t mess around. My level of racing has improved but as I level up, everyone here levels up just as much.

Huge thank you to my family back home for supporting me: BikeFixGuam, Cars Plus, Crossfit Latte Stone, EuroCyclingTrips, and GCF.”

Keep pushing, Blayde. We’re certainly proud of you! Safe travels on your journey back.

Oingerang & Cabaccang to take on Pacific Cup 2024 in Australia!

We are thrilled to announce that our XCO National Champion, Edward Oingerang, together with our silver medalist from this Sunday’s National Championship, Brian Cabaccang, will be heading to Brisbane, Australia to represent Guam later this month.

The 2024 XCO Pacific Cup will take place on Saturday, March 23, down under in the beautiful country of Australia. Oingerang and Cabaccang will compete against world-renowned professionals AND our region’s best at this UCI XCO event. “I am deeply honored to race and represent Guam… We will definitely do our best with GUAM on our chest,” said Brian Cabaccang.

“I am super excited to represent the Guam National Cycling Team at the Pacific Cup Mountain Bike XCO race on March 23rd,” says Edward Oingerang, Cyclist, Guam National Cycling Team. “Since finding out that I can go, I’ve been working with my cycling coach to dial in a training plan to help me reach my peak fitness on race day. We have been focusing on threshold and anaerobic work to put me in position to handle the fast, punchy cross country style racing. My plan between now and race day is to maximize time on my mountain bike and absorb as much as I can from all the training. Thank you Guam Cycling Federation for giving me another opportunity to represent the island internationally through sport.”

We know these gentlemen will represent Guam proudly. From all of us at GCF, wishing you both strong legs and the best mechanical luck out there!

QUICK HITS

Guam’s Wayne Blas completed his 13th Boston Marathon and 38th marathon overall.
The island’s record holder in the distance, Blas finished this year in 2:35:21.
“I’m very happy with this result because seven months ago, I was sidelined with a stress fracture that kept me out for three months. No running! To come back on an abbreviated marathon build and finish one of the toughest races strong and healthy was a big win for me.”
His time of 2:29:38 at the 2023 Chicago Marathon and World Marathon Majors Age Group Championships stands as the Guam National Record.
