BUTTERFINGERS ROLL TO FASTPITCH SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Ghost Energy Fastpitch Softball Tournament held their Open Division Championship Game with the Butterfingers versus the Aces. The game consisted with great pitching and defense displayed by both teams with the Butterfingers taking the championship 5-1 Sunday afternoon at the Piti Softball Field.

In the first two inning, the pitchers came out hot. Butterfinger’s pitcher Ashley Mendiola recorded two strike outs with her defense holding the Aces from scoring. The Aces pitcher Tiffany Miner-Quintanilla records two strike outs. The peaches right fielder Branwen Saville hit a standup triple putting herself in scoring position for the Butterfingers. Centerfielder Talen Topasna was able to hit a single which brings in Saville to score the first run of the game.

Starting the third inning, Aces Aleah Castro hits a single out centerfield putting a runner on for the Aces. Shortstop Latoya Moijica came out hitting with another single that put runners in scoring position. The Butterfingers defense, however, held the Aces from scoring with a line drive to first baseman Lyana Crisostomo who then doubled it up by getting the out force out at first. The Aces answered back with a grounder to Mojica, who then threw to second baseman, Lyrah Dirige and finally Nikole Leon Guerrero to get the 6-4-3 double play.

In the fourth and fifth innings, defense held both teams at bay keeping the score to 1-0 going into the sixth inning. The Butterfingers offense started to come alive with third baseman Juliana Nelson drawing a walk which put a runner on. A bunt was laid by Lyana Crisostomo, which scored Nelson and kept her at second. Saville drew another walk which then had Topasna hitting a RBI double scoring Crisostomo and putter runners on second and third. Continuing the hitting streak, Giana Sablan hits an RBI single scoring Saville and putting runners and the corners. Sierra Tenorio had the last offensive hit to right field scoring Topasna. The Aces defense stopped the rest from scoring and ended the inning.

Heading into the last inning, right fielder Amanda Degracia hit a single which put a runner on for the Aces. Aveah Campos came up swinging with a line shot through second base which puts runners in scoring positions for the Aces. Centerfielder Aleah Castro had an RBI single which scored Degracia for their first run. Butterfingers defense stopped the hitting combos by the Aces which ended the game.

Both teams played a great defensive game with the Butterfingers winning 5-1.

Peachy Nenis take High School 19U division

In the top of the first inning, the Aces came out swinging with two runs scored by Aleah Castro and Rya Castro. The Peachy Nenis were able to obtain one run from hit deep out to left field by Madisyn Cruz, which allowed Zaeyah Tajalle to score.

In the second inning, the Peachy Nenis were able to hold down the Aces from scoring. Kaia Chiguina led the Peachy Nenis scoring streak with a base hit to right field. They were able to obtain their five runs with a couple of walks and a hit by Aniyah Benavente which ended the inning.

In the third and fifth innings, the Peachy Nenis scored four more additional runs from Giniah-Jo Sarmiento, Chiguina, and two from Terah Topasna.

The Aces answered back in the sixth inning with additional two runs. Centerfielder Aleah Castro started it off for her team with a bunt. Third baseman Rya Castro then rallied by hitting a standup triple scoring Aleah Castro from third base. Up next, shortstop, Mikaelah Santos, scored R. Castro by hitting a single out to right field. Their streak would end with a strikeout by Terah Topasna and a throw down at first base by Zaeyah Tajalle. Aces held down the Nenis from scoring which ended the inning.

Entering the last inning, the Peachy Nenis were leading the game 10-7. However, that did not stop the Aces. Aces extra hitter, Sydney Taisipic started her team with a walk. This allowed pitcher Lenae Tedtaotao to hit a stand up double which put two runners in scoring position. First baseman Aveah Campos came out with a stand up double which allowed both Taisipic and Tedtaotao to score. With a couple of errors, Aces were able to load the bases. Lyrah Dirige tied the game with a single out to left which allowed one more run to score. Peachy Nenis were able to hold down the Aces from scoring more with two strikeouts by Terah Topasna. With the current score tied, 10-10, Peachy Nenis needed just one run to win.

Topasna started for the team by getting on base for the Peachy Nenis. With aggressive base running, Topasna was able to score securing the Peachy Nenis win. Final score 11-10.

Both teams played a great game! Topasna finished the game with six strikeouts and utility player, Aniyah Benavente, earned the MVP award for the entire tournament.
