Charfauros had 12 rushes for 118 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught four passes from Angel quarterback Apollo Moylan for 113 yards, which included a 49-yard touchdown.
The Cowboys were led by Kaden Cruz, who rushed for a touchdown and had six tackles on defense.
Game sequence
The Cowboys score on their first possession behind a 46-yard run from Josiah Cruz to put Southern up 8-0 early in the contest after a successful two-point kick.
The Angels’ dynamic offense takes the field and quickly counters with Charfauros scoring from 53 yards out to even the contest at 8-8.
Defense on both sides starts to make big plays to keep the game tied at 8-8. Daric Masnayon records a sack for the Angels. The Cowboys’ Kaden Cruz recorded two stops behind the line of scrimmage.
The Angels score just before halftime after getting the ball back on downs after the Cowboys decided not to punt at the own goal line. Elijah Mendiola scored from about six yards out via a sweep pass from Moylan. The 2-point conversion kick was blocked, and the score was 14-8 at halftime.
The Cowboys started the second half with a special teams play with Josiah Cruz, making a heads-up recovery. The Cowboys were unable to score off the good field position, and the Angels answer with Charfauros scoring from 8 yards out to go ahead 20-8.
The Cowboy special teams struck again with good blocking on the ensuing possession with Kaden Cruz returning the kick for 46 yards. The Cowboys made use of their good field position with a 28-yard score from Damian Ooka to trim the lead to 20-14.
The Angels scored to start the fourth quarter with Moylan finding Charfauros for a highlight 49-yard touchdown to push their lead back to 28-14 after a successful kick from Kaden Medler.
The Cowboys were down but answered once again with Kaden Cruz scoring from 10 yards out to trail 28-21 after a successful one-point pass conversion.
The Angels had a chance to end the game after Charfauros advanced the ball into Cowboy territory with a 23-yard gain. The Cowboy defense held the Angels back and forced a turnover on downs with their backs, once again, at their own goal line.
The Cowboys had just enough time for three more plays with less than a minute left, but they were too deep in their own territory. The game ended with Angels winning 28-21. The Cowboys fall to 2-2 for the season.
Jayce Sablan and Medler each had interceptions for the Angels. Ooka had five tackles for the Cowboys.
Moylan had 143 passing yards off eight completions for the Angels. Sablan contributed 20 rush yards off five carries for the Angels.
