GNYFF: EAGLES MANHA REMAIN UNBEATEN

Defending division champs roll past Broncos

By Matt Lorenzo

Week 3 of the GNYFF season featured the defending Manha champion Guahan Eagles taking on the Broncos.

The Eagles continue to be the team to beat, improving to 3-0 after a 47-21 win Sunday afternoon at the Eagles Field.

Cameron Cooper, Aaron Brub and Haven Quichocho scored in the Eagles’ offensive performance.

First Half
The game started with big plays from the Broncos’ stellar defensive line that caused the Eagles to lose possession on the first drive. Starting their drive, the Broncos had a lot of momentum with well-timed blockers from their offensive line and fast feet from their running backs.

This ultimately led the Broncos to score first with run to the left with the runner evading three Eagle defenders. The Eagles offense came back on the field firing on all cylinders with multiple big runs to bring them up the field. They then equalize the score with a run in to the right. The defensive game was strong in both teams with a lot of big shows of power and speed from the defensive line and line backers.

QUICK HITS

Guam’s Wayne Blas completed his 13th Boston Marathon and 38th marathon overall.
The island’s record holder in the distance, Blas finished this year in 2:35:21.
“I’m very happy with this result because seven months ago, I was sidelined with a stress fracture that kept me out for three months. No running! To come back on an abbreviated marathon build and finish one of the toughest races strong and healthy was a big win for me.”
His time of 2:29:38 at the 2023 Chicago Marathon and World Marathon Majors Age Group Championships stands as the Guam National Record.
