GNYFF SEMIFINALS SET FOR THIS WEEKEND

Top four teams from each division advance

After nine weeks of competition, the top four teams of each division move on to the semifinals of the 2024 Triple J GNYFF Youth Football League this weekend.

All games will be played at the Tiyan Field at 10:30 am (Manha), 12:30 pm (Metgot), and 2:30 pm (Matua).

MANHA DIVISION

Saturday, 10:30 am: The Angels (1) takes on the Cowboys (4) to start things off. The Angels have been dominant all season, finishing at 8-0 with a high-powered offense. The Cowboys finished the season at 4-4, tied with the Broncos and Raiders, but got the fourth spot by virtue of giving up less points than the other two teams. Now they face the top ranked team.

Sunday, 10:30 am: The defending champion Eagles (2) finished at 7-1, losing only to the Angels. It should be a close semifinal battle against the 6-2 Packers (3).

METGOT DIVISION

Saturday, 12:30 pm: The Cowboys (2) and Angels (3) have the two stingiest defenses in the division so expect a tough defensive battle. Southern is riding a six-game win streak and hopes to continue that into championship weekend. The Angels are trying to defend their division crown.

Sunday, 12:30 pm: The undefeated Outlaws (1) scored a league-best 300 points on offense with its crazy running game, and it could’ve been worse as they pulled their foot off the gas in some games. The Eagles (4) squeaked into the playoffs with a 5-3 record and now have the undaunting task of trying to stop the Outlaws.

MATUA DIVISION

Saturday, 2:30 pm: In a highly competitive season in which the two-time defending champion Eagles didn’t even make the playoffs, the Angels (1) fought through undefeated and take on a tough Cowboys (4) squad that they just edged out a few weeks ago. The Cowboys just lost a heart-breaker over the weekend that dropped them to the 4 slot.

Sunday, 2:30 pm: The Outlaws (2) have been waiting for the playoffs since their opening-season loss to the Angels. They are super hungry this time around, especially after coming oh-so-close in last year’s championship game loss. It will be a tough semis, though, against the Packers (3). Both teams had the best defenses in the division, so expect a tight battle to end semifinals weekend.

NOTE: The location for championship weekend is still not confirmed as of this writeup.
