The Faha Outlaws won its first ever GNYFF championship, taking the Metgot Division on Saturday with a 31-20 win over the Southern Cowboys. The older Matua Outlaws would win hours later to make it two out of three division championships for the Outlaws.
As they have done all season long, the Outlaws rode the shoulder of star running back Nekhi Freeman, who rushed for all five touchdowns and over 300 yards.
Freeman struck early, taking a shot gun from the QB spot and found the right sidelines for a 71-yard score and a quick 6-0 lead.
Freeman’s send score came later in the second quarter, taking a pitch left and a juke before hitting the left sidelines for a 59-yard score and a 12-0 score.
Ezekiel Rey Maysho put the Cowboys on the board on a QB sweep left before shifting back to the middle of the field for a 48-yard score. The PAT cut the lead to 12-7.
The Cowboys D held up and the offense was able to punch in another score when Makoa Aguigui found a big hole up the middle on 2nd-and-goal. Southern was riding high with a 14-12 lead going into the break.
But Freeman would strike for the third time before halftime, an athletic run to the right that had Freeman off balance, but the nifty running back managed to stay upright on his way to another long 65-yard score to take back the lead for good.
After a few changes of possessions to start the second half, Freeman’s fourth TD extended the lead as he took a direct snap and bounced out left before heading down the usual sidelines for a 25-14 lead.
The Cowboys’ Maysho cut the lead in the fourth quarter with an impressive razzle dazzle off a broken play on 2nd-and-goal to cut it to 25-20.
Freeman would put the icing on the cake with another highlight-reel run, bouncing off a defender and cutting outside for 53 yards.
