OUTLAWS SHUTOUT PREVIOUSLY UNBEATEN PACKERS

Packers give up first points of the season

By Daniel Akimoto

Despite the Sunday heat, the Faha Outlaws looked comfortable against the undefeated Packers after scoring 25 unanswered points improving their record to 4-1 in the Triple J GNYFF Matua Division.

Ervin Torres led the Outlaws with 129 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Sage Delgado and Daniel Salas join him with both of them putting up a touchdown of their own.

Strong Start
The Outlaws got great field positioning to start the game after the Packers failed to recover the ball on an onside kick. Torres’ 16-yard rush gave quarterback Kaizayuh Flores the space he needed to connect to Salas on a 29 yard pass. Torres completed the drive with a rushing touchdown putting the Outlaws up 6-0.

Preparation is Key
Looking to answer back, the Packers lined up in a trips formation. However, Salas jumped the screen pass to secure the interception, getting the ball back for the Outlaws.

“We were going over that play a lot [in practice], and when we saw that formation, we just put that [practice] to work,” said Salas.

Another Day in the Office
Coming into Sunday’s matchup, the Packers had yet to give up a point. However, this didn’t seem to phase the Outlaws’ workhorse Ervin Torres as he was able to notch a second touchdown in the 3rd quarter.

“Keep running. Hold the ball. Keep pushing,” said Torres when asked about his game plan was on facing the Packers

Daniel Salas and Sage Delgado each had rushing touchdowns in the 4th quarter.

The final score was 25-0 with the Outlaws winning to put them up 4-1 in the standings. The Packers join them falling to 4-1 as well.

Salas and Jayven Pangelinan each had an interception for the Outlaws. Jude Kelly had an interception for the Packers.

Flores threw for 93 yards and one interception for the Outlaws. Salas had 61 receiving yards on three receptions. AJ Calugay-Ocampo had 34 receiving yards on two catches. Torres rushed for 129 yards.

Tavion Apatang threw for 24 yards and an interception for the Packers. Kaleb Toves rushed for 73 yards. Kelly had 24 receiving and 10 rushing yards for the Packers.
