Another ho hum ballgame for the FD Friars after wiping out the Sanchez Sharks 63-0 Saturday night in the Isa Football League.
The Friars won in all facets of the game and scored from offense, defense and special teams in moving its winning streak to 83 games.
Junior running back Javin Meno, who led FD on the ground with 98 yards on eight carries, explains how the Friars stay motivated despite one blowout after another.
“We stay motivated by coming to the game, thinking of what we’re going to do and execute what we’ve done at practice and implement it in the game,” Meno said. “Just play football.”
The Sharks, who had forfeited to the Friars the last four years and haven’t played them since 2019, had a sense of newness with a fairly large number of players and a whole new coaching staff led by Nikolas Masnayon.
In fact, there was a ray of light when the Sanchez defense forced Javin Meno to cough up the ball on the second play of the game. That resulted in a 3-and-out for the Sharks and the light quickly diminished.
FD’s defense once again came up big, holding Sanchez to minus-3 yards on the night. In two games, the defense has pushed back the opposing offenses to minus-73 yards.
Isaiah Salas had two sacks and an interception returned for a touchdown for the FD ‘D’.
“Our defense really played a big role in our game today,” Javin Meno said, in giving credit to the other side of the ball. “They did a hell of a job pushing them back, doing everything they can to put the offense in a good position.”
Besides Meno, quarterback Kaynin McIntosh went 3-for-3 for 66 yards, all in the first quarter and all to receiver Jarret Ko, including the first score of the game on a post pattern that had Ko wide open for 25 yards.
The dominance continued as the Friars took a 28-0 lead after the first quarter and led 56-0 at halftime.
The second half gave way to the third string crew to get some playing time.
Surprisingly, the FD offense garnered only 171 of total offense. Kicker David DeOro was a perfect 9-for-9 on PATs.
The lone bright spot for the Sharks was receiver Isaac Amaguin, who hauled in two long passes from quarterback Jayson Parr for gains of 23 and 35 yards in the second half.
Next week, the Friars take on the Guam High Panthers on Friday night at GW, while the Sharks face the Okkodo Bulldogs Saturday night at JFK.
