GECKOS ROLL PAST ISLANDERS WITH BIG 1ST INNING

Hardt guides GW with 1-hitter

Pitching ace Brinnlyn Hardt tossed a one-hitter in a shortened game, leading the GW Geckos past the JFK Islanders 16-1 in the ISA Softball League Tuesday afternoon at the Geckos home field.

Wendy’s Player of the Game: Brinnlyn Hardt

Hardt struck out eight of the nine outs for the Geckos in the three innings she pitched, as the game was called in the third due to the 15-run rule. She gave up only one hit (a 3rd inning double to Amanda Lizama) and walked three.

Offensively for the Geckos, they took advantage of numerous walks. Aleia Alcantara and Alexa Sablan-Roberto had a hit and three walks each for GW.

The Geckos picked up their first win of the season (1-1), while the Islanders fall to 2-2.

QUICK HITS

Guam’s Wayne Blas completed his 13th Boston Marathon and 38th marathon overall.
The island’s record holder in the distance, Blas finished this year in 2:35:21.
“I’m very happy with this result because seven months ago, I was sidelined with a stress fracture that kept me out for three months. No running! To come back on an abbreviated marathon build and finish one of the toughest races strong and healthy was a big win for me.”
His time of 2:29:38 at the 2023 Chicago Marathon and World Marathon Majors Age Group Championships stands as the Guam National Record.
