LEE, HURCHANIK GRAB GOLD IN JUNIOR OLYMPICS

PRESS RELEASE – Amphibious Aquatics Guam made a record-breaking splash at the 2025 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympics at the Cy-Fair Natatorium in Houston, Texas from July 22-27, 2025. With over 725 athletes from across the nation competing in more than 34 swimming events and relays, Amphibious is homebound with 71 medals and countless personal bests.

Notably, Mia Lee (17) and Demi Hurchanik (12) have bested their age divisions with first place finishes and set new AAU Junior Olympics records in the 50m Freestyle (27.45) and the 100m breaststroke (1:27.99), respectively.

12 & under swimmers Maverick Apiag, Matua Camacho, Tanom Camacho, Olivia Dierking, Tayvia Dierking, Raiden Dueñas, Skyler Dueñas, Miles Horton, Demi Blu Hurchanik, Logan Jun, Nina Lee, Ella Pangelinan, and Naleeyah Thompson joined their 13 & over counterparts Logan Gandaoli, Mia Lee, Nanea Price, Hyemi Reyes, Naiatea Sanchez Wooley, Gabriel Rodriguez, John Moore IV, and Isla Rodriguez with Amphibious Aquatics Guam. All twenty-one swimmers qualified and competed in the 2025 Junior Olympic Games.

The team earned an impressive seventy-one medals, including multiple gold, silver, and bronze podium finishes, reflecting the dedication and skill of these young athletes. The competition has been fierce, but these swimmers qualified for these events and rose to the occasion, demonstrating not only their athletic prowess but also their tremendous Håfa Adai spirit and team camaraderie. 

Medal Highlights

Gold Medal Performances: 17-year-old Mia Lee, a recent graduate from St. John’s School Guam earned gold in the 50m freestyle*, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle, and 100m butterfly along with silver medals in the 200m individual medley and the 100m backstroke. Twelve-year-old Demi Hurchanik, from Harvest Christian Academy achieved gold in the 100m breaststroke* and silver in the 50m breaststroke,  among other outstanding performances.

Silver and Bronze Medals: Raiden Dueñas (10) earned a silver in the 50m freestyle and a bronze in the 100m backstroke. Nina Lee (11) achieved a silver medal in the 50m butterfly. Tanom Camacho (12) earned bronze medals in the 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle events. Skyler Dueñas (12) achieved bronze in the 50m backstroke. Isla Rodriguez (16) earned a bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke. In addition to these individual events, the boys 12 & under team were awarded a bronze medal for their 4 x 100m freestyle relay swim by Skyler Dueñas, Miles Horton, Tanom Camacho and Logan Jun.
