MOTOCROSS ENJOYING NEW LIFE AT NEW LOCATION

Round 4 in the books

PRESS RELEASE – After four rounds of championship motocross done with that kind of island style that includes not only high flying machines doing bar to bar battle but also great family Sunday fun. Racers from the very young starting at four years of age and ranging to the manamko in their sixties and even into the seventies are out twisting the throttle in the dirt of the Pulantat Yona motocross track with grins that reach from ear to ear as they compete for that Guam class championship.

There’s always a barbeque going on with the sweet smell of marinated meats mingling with the smell of high powered motors. Its motocross on Guam and it’s a very special thing to be a part of. Off the track in the pits everyone is family but once the gate drops on the track there is no mercy or ground given. It’s an addictive sport and an over powering passion for many that mixes thrills with spills with close friendships and family.

This year has been a rebirth of sorts for this exciting high adrenaline sport after having the rug pulled out from under them with the loss of Guam’s treasured Guam International Raceway which had been a staple for thousands of our islands citizens adding greatly to safety and to the islands quality of life. Thankfully because of the efforts and commitment of several individual’s namely Timothy Wenden and Jeffrey Rios a new location for a motocross facility was negotiated and a lease was finalized.

Yona is the new home for motocross on Guam with deep red dirt that is perfect for a motocross track and several concrete buildings for the club which even includes a restroom to utilize. With great support from several local businesses the dream of having a motocross home has become a reality.

It’s the first season back after nearly two years and with four rounds of championship racing completed the season is just over half way finished.

After four rounds #7 JR Cepeda has been dominating the Open Motorcycle class aboard his Yamaha YZ450. Cepeda who has accumulated more Guam motocross Championships in the Open Motorcycle class than anyone else leads the championship with 183 points over Cyclesplus team supported rider #85 Blaze Aiken racing aboard a Kawasaki KX250F with 158 points. #3 Tim Wenden on a Rocky Mountain Precast supported KTM250 sits in third with 151 point’s just 7 points behind the Kawasaki of Blaze Aiken. #31 Richard Wenden has been up front battling with the top contenders but has had a few things not go his way which has him sitting in fourth with 135 points.

Rounding out the current top 5 in the Open Motorcycle class is former Guam Champion Little John Aguon on his Kawasaki KX450f with 108 points. The championship is still very much in play and with a sport such as motocross anything can happen and usually does.

On Sunday October 5th this years Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships will continue with round 5 of the series. The Open Motorcycles along with several other classes will be once again lining up bar to bar for the gate to drop for their heat’s each in their respective classes. Other class action will include the Open ATV, the Over 40 Vet class, the Novice Motorcycle class and several mini classes both on two and four wheels.

The public is always welcomed and of course there is no charge to watch. For those looking to compete registration is at the event from 9 -11 am and for more information visit the Guam Motocross Club on teamapp.com or come out for the event on Sunday.  Remember to bring something to drink, maybe an umbrella and if you feel like a barbeque then by all means do it.
