ROUND 3 OF MOTORCROSS SERIES KICKS UP DUST

Top riders move through third round of Monster Energy Series

PRESS RELEASE – Round 3 of the highly anticipated Guam Monster Energy Motocross Event Series took place on Sunday, May 25th, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of spectators to witness a full day of competitive racing. The event featured exhilarating performances from both youth and adult riders, showcasing the island’s top motocross talent.

With Guam experiencing minimal rainfall in recent months, track conditions proved especially challenging. The dry weather resulted in a hot, dusty course that tested riders’ skill, stamina, and adaptability. Despite the tough terrain, racers rose to the occasion, delivering high-energy performances that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

In preparation for Sunday’s event, the track facilities received a much-needed makeover on Saturday, thanks to the collaborative efforts of sponsors and dedicated volunteers from the U.S. Marine Corps and the Guam Motocross Club. The Club’s main building was water-blasted and freshly painted, made possible through material sponsorship from ERC Trading.

Monster Energy kept riders and attendees hydrated throughout the long, hot day, while UNI Tech contributed heavy equipment—including a backhoe—that was instrumental in clearing years of accumulated debris. The combined efforts resulted in a cleaner, safer, and more enjoyable environment for racing families and fans alike, enhancing the overall event experience.

As the track continues to gain recognition and grow in popularity, it is also inspiring the next generation of motocross talent. The Guam Motocross Club is proud to welcome two new young riders—Brennan San Nicolas and Jreythan Pano—who made their debut in the 65cc class. Their participation marks an exciting step in their racing journey and reflects the club’s ongoing commitment to fostering youth involvement in the sport.

Heat 1 of the Open Expert Class launched with fast-paced action under hot and dusty conditions, keeping fans on the edge of their seats. Fifteen-year-old Richard Wenden, the youngest competitor in the field, rocketed out of the gate first but ran wide at the opening corner. Seizing the opportunity, veteran rider Frank Rios executed a sharp inside line to steal the hole-shot, drawing cheers from the crowd.

However, Rios’s lead was short-lived. JR Cepeda quickly overtook him, setting the pace up front. Behind him, Tim Wenden and Jake Jones settled into second and third positions, respectively. Young Richard Wenden wasn’t done yet—he regrouped and closed the gap on Jones, launching a spirited battle for third place. Jones defended his position fiercely, but by lap three, a wide turn gave Richard the opening he needed to make the pass.

Further back, Blaze Aiken, who had a tough start, began making up ground. By lap five, he had caught up to Jones and started applying pressure for the fourth-place spot. On lap seven, Aiken capitalized on another wide turn and successfully made the pass, securing fourth place.

Despite the challenging, dusty conditions, the race delivered non-stop excitement and showcased the talent and determination of every rider on the track.

Heat 2 of the Open Expert Class kicked off with high intensity as Blaze Aiken, determined to improve on his previous fourth-place finish, launched off the start line with explosive speed. Aiken secured the hole-shot, with JR Cepeda close behind, setting the stage for a gripping 14-lap battle among the class’s top riders.

Racing in Aiken’s dust trail, Cepeda struggled to find a clear line for a pass, while 15-year-old Richard Wenden relentlessly pursued the seasoned veteran, applying pressure in hopes of moving up to second. In a decisive moment, Cepeda executed a strategic maneuver, pushing Wenden wide in a loose corner—a move only an experienced racer would attempt. The contact forced Wenden to drop his bike in the dusty turn, costing him precious seconds.

Meanwhile, another intense battle unfolded for fourth place. John Aguon held position ahead of Jake Jones and Tim Wenden, who was recovering from a difficult start. Choked by dust and battling for visibility, Tim Wenden was unable to pass Jones until midway through the race. A critical moment came when Aguon stalled in a corner, allowing both Wenden and Jones to slip by and secure fourth and fifth place, respectively.

As the checkered flag waved, Blaze Aiken maintained his lead to take a well-earned first place, followed by JR Cepeda in second and Richard Wenden recovering to round out the podium in third.

The third round of the Guam Monster Energy Motocross Event Series proved to be a thrilling showcase of talent, determination, and community spirit. From youth debuts to expert-class showdowns, the event highlighted the growing passion for motocross on the island. With continued support from sponsors, volunteers, and fans, the series is set to build even more momentum in the rounds to come. Round four will be held on Sunday, June 8.
