SPECIAL OLYMPICS SOFTBALL SET FOR NOV. 22

7th year of the softball program

PRESS RELEASE – Special Olympics Guam (SOGU) proudly announces its 2025 Softball Tournament,  celebrating the 7th year of the beloved softball program. Four Special Olympics teams—the  Megawatts, Dodgers, Dukduk, and Tigers—will take to the field in an exciting competition that  highlights eight weeks of dedicated training held every Saturday morning at the Dededo Softball  Fields. 

The event culminates on Saturday, November 22, 2025, beginning with Opening Ceremonies at  8:30 AM, followed by a day of games and camaraderie. 

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the incredible coaches, volunteers, and sponsors who make  this event possible each year,” said Geri Leon Guerrero, SOGU Board and Softball Chair. “From  the Guam Power Authority and Department of Youth Affairs to GTA and the Academy of Our  Lady of Guam, their support helps our athletes shine brighter every season. This year’s lineup is  another one of our strongest – you won’t want to miss it!” 

The community’s continued support has been instrumental in making weekly practices a success.  SOGU extends special thanks to the Department of Youth Affairs, Matson Guam, Guam Power  Authority, Office of the Governor & Lt. Governor, Department of Parks and Recreation, GTA,  Dededo Mayor’s Office, and the Academy of Our Lady of Guam for their generous  contributions. 

Special recognition also goes to Wil Stinnett and his Department of Parks and Recreation team for their tireless work in maintaining and preparing the softball fields for practice and game day. 

“Softball continues to be one of the most anticipated sports among our athletes,” shared Marissa Maratita-Matanane, Co-Lead. “Their growth, teamwork, and love for the game are truly  inspiring. Thanks to our amazing volunteers and supporters, this year promises to be an  unforgettable competition!”

Join the excitement on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the Harmon/Dededo Softball Fields starting at 8:30 AM, and cheer on your favorite Special Olympics Guam teams as they swing for  the fences! 

Since 1976, Special Olympics Guam (SOGU) has been dedicated to providing year-round  sporting opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Accredited by Special  Olympics International (SOI) and now part of the Special Olympics Asia Pacific Region, SOGU  continues to promote inclusion, equality, and empowerment through sports.

QUICK HITS

Guam’s top female golfer Tyanna Jacot has committed to play D1 golf with the San Jose State Spartans next school year. Jacot left Guam after her sophomore high school year to pursue her golf dreams. She currently is a senior at Torrey Pines High School where they look to defend the California state championship.

Guam Sports Legends: Baseball’s Richard Martinez and football’s Kenny Lujan hang out at a recent community fundraiser. Both were superstars for the UOG Tritons in their respective sports in the 1980’s.
