PRESS RELEASE – The Special Olympics Guam Organization (SOGU) proudly announces the 49th Annual Track and Field Event, set to take place on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Okkodo High School in Dededo. This milestone event celebrates athleticism, inclusion, and community unity, bringing together athletes, families, volunteers, and supporters for a day of sportsmanship and inspiration.
A Community Effort: Military, Local Agencies, Businesses & Schools Unite
This annual event is made possible through the dedicated support of our local and military law enforcement agencies, private businesses, and schools, all of whom play a key role in ensuring its success. From volunteering and fundraising to logistical support and mentorship, their involvement highlights the power of community collaboration in championing inclusion and opportunity for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Kicking Off with the Law Enforcement Torch Run
The festivities will begin at 5 AM with the Law Enforcement Torch Run, a symbolic relay led by military and local law enforcement agencies. This powerful tradition represents unity, strength, and commitment to supporting Special Olympics athletes and their journey toward greatness.
Opening Ceremonies: A Moment of Pride & Celebration
At 8 AM, the Opening Ceremonies will set the stage for an exciting day of competition. Athletes from schools and adult groups will proudly parade through the venue, joined by coaches, volunteers, cheerleaders, families, and supporters who stand behind them every step of the way. Their presence serves as a testament to the resilience, strength, and determination of individuals with intellectual disabilities.
A Legacy of Empowerment & Inclusion
Since 1976, Special Olympics Guam has remained dedicated to providing year-round sports training and athletic competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Through the unwavering support of volunteers, businesses, and organizations, SOGU continues to foster confidence, independence, and opportunities for its athletes while promoting an inclusive and accepting society.
Come Out & Support Our Athletes! SOGU invites the entire island to join us in cheering on our athletes and making this event truly special.
