Budweiser Amateur Baseball League action kicked off this weekend at Leo Palace Resort with plenty of slugging, web gems and great pitching in the season’s first extra-inning game.

The Barrigada Crusaders and Agana Heights Blues lead off the season with a slugfest in the first game Saturday. The Crusaders pounded 26 hits and scoreed eight runs in the 1st and 2nd innings respectively to roll to a 27-2 5 inning mercy rule win over the Blues.

Jathan Muna-Barnes had 4 hits. Mike Bautista was 3-3 with 3 doubles and Misaki Cramer was 3-5 to help power the Crusaders. TJ Leon Guerrero was 4-6 with 4 runs and 3 rbi to take home Strike Zone Player of the Game. Crusaders starter Shane McDonald went three innings allowing two earned runs on three hits to notch the win.

The Blues managed only 5 hits in the matchup as they couldn’t keep up with the Crusaders offense. Paul Untalan was 1-1 with an rbi and Matt Acfalle was 1-2 with a run. Blues starter Jude Quichcho is tagged with the loss.Dongo Yigolos 10 Vipers 4

In Saturday afternoon action the Vipers and Dongo Yigolos battled it out until the Yigolos would break it open in the 6th inning and take a 10-4 win over the Vipers. The Yigolos broke through against the Vipers bullpen scoring four runs in the 6th and 7th innings.

The Yigolos would break the game wide open in the 6th inning scoring four runs with Quintanilla and Tenorio proving rbi hits and stretching the Yigolos lead to 6-0.

The Vipers would answer in the bottom of the 6th with Charlie Cabarles doubling to lead off the inning. After a walk to Brandon Unpingo, Gerald Santos would double them both in. Scott Perez would add a two rbi single to cut the lead to 6-4 going into the 7th inning.

The Yigolos bats would stay hot in the 7th with the Yigolos scoring four more runs taking advantage of three consecutive walks and rbi hits by Pete Cruz and Carl Quintanilla to extend the lead to 10-4.

In the bottom half of the 7th the Vipers would get a rally going and push a run across before Yigolos relief pitcher Cliff Rafael would close the door and secure the 10-4 win.

The Yigolos Shane Tenorio picks up Strike Zone POG going 2-3 with 4 rbi to lead the Yigolos offense. Yigolos starter blanked the Vipers of four innings allowing only one hit with six strikeouts to get the win Rafael closes it out to pick up the save.

Rick Fernandez goes four quality innings allowing only one earned run but picks up the loss for the Vipers. Charlie Cabarles was 2-3 with two doubles and an rbi in the loss.

In the Saturday night cap the Northern A’s backed up last season’s championship with a 14-4 win over the Chalan Pago Amigos in a rematch of last season finals.

The A’s would jump out to an early 5-0 lead before the Amigos would get on the board in the 3rd inning scoring two runs to cut the A’s lead to 5-2. Lawrence Idelbong would make a diving grab in deep centerfield running with his back to plate to end the Amigos 4th inning rally.

RJ Miner would pace the A’s offense with a rbi double, single, stolen base and run scored. Starter Lorenzo Flores shut down the Amigos offense allowing two runs on three hits over four innings.

The Amigos would add two runs in the 5th inning with Brian Quintanilla and TJ Aguon providing rbi singles to cut the A’s lead to 10-3. But the A’s would end the game in the bottom of the 5th inning scoring four runs for the five inning 10 run mercy rule. Miller Santos would hit a rope down the right field line for a ground rule double driving in Idelbong to end the game.

Flores picks up the win for the A’s and Pete Quintanilla the loss for the Amigos. Lawrence Idelbong grabs Strike Zone POG with his web gem and 2-3 with a triple, two runs and 3 rbi at the plate. TJ Aguon was 2-2 with a run and rbi for the Amigos.

The Ralphy’s Blue Jays and AXE Stars matched up on Sunday night with the first extra inning game of the season with the Blue Jays pushing three runs across in the 8th inning to hold on to the 4-1 win.

BJ’s starting pitcher Jay Cing and Stars starting pitcher Larry Bombon treated the fans to a great matchup with both teams tied up at 1-1 after 5 innings. A sac fly by Rafael Quinata would drive in Hank Salas who had singled for the Stars only run. Vic Villagomez would single and score on a Keith Santos groundout for the BJ’s only run.

Cing would go 5 innings allowing one earned run on three hits with four strikeouts. Bombon would also go 5 innings allowing the one run on six hits with one strikeout.

John McDonald would single and score on an error to give the Blue Jays the 2-1 lead in the top of the 8th inning. An rbi single by Nate Weakley would would add two more insurance runs to give the BJ’s a 4-1 lead.

BJ’s reliever Brian Santos would walk the first batter but strikeout the next two and get the last hitter to fly to center to hold onto the 4-1 win for the Blue Jays.

Jeff Cruz would hold the Stars scoreless for two innings to pick up the win and Santos notches the save. Weakly earns Strike Zone POG going 2-3 with a double and rbi.

Catch more Budweiser Amateur Baseball League action this Wednesday when the Vipers take on the Agat Cardinals and Thursday when the Dongo Yigolos battle the AXE Stars.
