In GNYFF action, this weekend’s youth football featured the four undefeated teams of the Metgot division fighting to keep their perfect records.

Wrapping up the weekend, the GTA Teleguam Raiders slipped away with the win, defeating the Tan Holdings Southern Cowboys 19-12 at the UOG field Sunday.

The Raiders sat in a comfortable lead right before the half as they were up 12-0 thanks to touchdowns by star players Xavier “the X-man” Naputi and Brandon Salumbides.

But two minutes before half time, the Raiders were shaken out of their comfort zone. Travis Conception put the Cowboys on the scoreboard rounding out to the right to avoid the Raiders defense, running in for a 23-yard touchdown.

With the Cowboys only one touchdown behind, the Raiders began to get anxious for a score. Michael Snell gave his Raiders some breathing room with less than six minutes left in the fourth quarter. At fourth and goal at the 2-yard line, amidst the Cowboys defense, Snell plunged into the end zone to extend their lead to 18-6. Salumbinas ran in for the one-point conversion to make the score 19-6.

On the Cowboys first play after Snell’s touchdown, quarterback Javen Aflague connected with Conception for a 55-yard reception touchdown, causing an uproar from the Cowboys side.

With the Raiders on offense, they nearly scored another touchdown, but the Cowboys defense forced them to turn the ball over on downs.

As time was winding down, the Cowboys had only 27 seconds to tie or possibly win the game. However, after two incomplete passes – one due to pass interference on the defense – and a game-saving sack by Raiders’ Dylan Parke, time ran out on the Cowboys and the Raider nation erupted with cheers.

Now, the Raiders, along with the Angels who held off the Jets Saturday, are the only undefeated teams in the Metgot division. The Angels and the Raiders will face off in a battle of the unbeatens on September 9 at Eagle Field.
