PRESS RELEASE – Winning in the midfield to create shot opportunities up top was key for the Rovers FC Gold in their 4-1 win over Big Blue Saturday evening in a Bud Light Masters Co-Ed League match at the Guam Football Association facility in Harmon.

The Rovers FC Gold took the early advantage in the first half on a goal from John Oh that snuck through Big Blue keeper Ken Banks’ hands. Later in the first half, the Rovers FC Gold’s Eladio Manansala sent a pass from near midfield to Alexy Barbe, who chased it down the left wing. Instead of taking a shot, Barbe deceived defenders by passing the ball to Rudy Restuvog, who finished the goal to put the Rovers FC Gold up two before the halftime whistle.
Despite facing a 3-0 deficit in the early part of the second half after a Randy Allen goal for the Rovers FC Gold, Noel Casilao prevented a shut out by following up on a loose ball near the goal and sending it to the opposite post for Big Blue’s lone score.
Later in the half, the Rovers FC Gold’s Carlos Barajas broke free from the midfield to carry the ball up the right side of the field, eventually drawing out Banks. Barajas sent the ball up near the goal to Allen, who finished the play with a header for goal for the contest’s final score.
In the night’s early game, the Paintco Strykers defeated the Toyota 4Runners 6-1. The 4Runners earned the early 1-0 advantage after a Kevin Malakooti goal in the 10th minute, but the Strykers followed with three goals in each half for the victory. Julio Gonzales scored twice and teammates Kyu Joon Yeon, David Miles, Rod Hidalgo and Makoto Suzuki each added one goal.
Matches continue Saturday with the Strykers playing Big Blue in the early game, followed by the 4Runners against the Rovers FC Royal.
