’06 TO START TITLE DEFENSE

2006 – 72, 2007 – 61

The Class of 2006 finished pool play in the FD Alumni Tournament undefeated as they got past a hot start from 2007.  Julius Yu led ’06 with 18 points while Jude Martinez finished with 24 points and teammate Brandon Duenas had 20.

’07 managed to get a 15-6 lead on ’06 in the first-half off a three pointer from Duenas, but ’06 quickly put an end to that run by responding with an 11-2 run to retake the lead 21-20.  Yu made two driving layups in the final minute of the first half and capped it off with a fall away three-pointer to stretch the lead 37-28.

’06 went with a different line up in the second half that allowed ’07 to get as close as two points, 37-35 on a shot by Josh Manglona.  Gus Untalan gave ’06 the spark off the bench by hitting a three pointer to give his team the 48-40 lead.  Untalan then hit two more shots to push the lead to double-digits, 54-42, until hitting his second three pointer a few plays later to close out the game.

’07 made another run after a Duenas three-pointer to cut the lead 67-61 but the starting five, led by Yu and Brian Aflague, managed to shut down ’07 in the final two minutes to keep their perfect record in tact.
