With a size and number advantage, the MTM Falcons ran over the Tamuning Typhoons 73-43 in the 18 and under Men’s Youth Division Saturday night at the Tamuning Gym.
Both teams were eager and evenly matched in the first half of the ball game as the lead kept changing and the momentum kept shifting. Tamuning relied on the sharpshooting of Steven Arceo and Arvin Flores who each had two three pointers within the half.
Although the Falcons outnumbered the Typhoons, they still managed to give them a hard time on defense by getting their hands on loose balls and grabbing rebounds which led to easy buckets, keeping the score tied at 19.
Coming out of halftime, it seemed that the Typhoons were fatigued as the Falcons took the lead after a 6-0 run led by the quick offense of Rashuan Blas who scored 14 of his 19 points in the first half giving his team a comfortable 41-25 lead into the break.
The Falcons built on the momentum they had in the first half and continued to control the floor using their size and their speed to exploit the undermanned Typhoons. Mason Pangelinan got it going early by hitting a three pointer early in the second half, which caused an offensive surge from the whole team. He would get help from Josh Mccarel who used his size to control the paint outrebounding and outscoring both big men of the Typhoons.
Tamuning could not recover as they struggled to find their game in the second half. With about five minutes remaining in the ball game the Falcons were up by twenty points and it seemed as if a comeback was out of reach for Tamuning as MTM would eventually go on winning the game by a 30 point margin, 73-43.
Blas led all scorers with 19 points followed by teammate Pangelinan who had 14.
