Chief Justice Robert Torres led the eldest class in the tournament with 24 points but the Class of ’91 hit 12 three pointers which helped them advance to the quarter finals in the FD Alumni Tournament.

The Class of ’70 were also playing with the eldest participant in the tournament in Ray Cruz from the Class of 1959.  The 70-year-old Cruz has been playing basketball longer than anyone in the tournament.

The traditional 20-point lead was given to ’70 to start the game but ’91 quickly closed the gap with efficient shooting by  leading scorer J Onedera, but still trailed 39-37 at halftime.

’91 grabbed their first lead of the second half off a corner three-pointer from GSPN’s Patrick Lujan to go up 44-42.  ’91 never trailed after that going on a 27-8 run to close out the game.

Onedera finished with 16 points to lead the Class of ’91. Everyone got into the three-point including Dominic Cruz, Santino Sgambelluri, Noy ‘The Legend’ Javellana, John Blas and John Aguon. Robert Ramirez hit nothing but air.

The Class of ’91 is the only class to win all four years of the prestigious FD Songfest.

1984/89 – 39, 1988 – 34

The rival classes from the 80’s battled it out with 84/89 coming out victorious thanks to a clutch performance from Marcus Aguon, who also had a game-high 17 points.

Class of ’88 were trailing 37-31 in the final minute of the game when Dana Lujan hit a pull-up three pointer to bring them within a single possession.  Lujan would get a couple more looks a possession later but could not hit it, which resulted in the late-game fouling strategy putting Aguon at the line where he hit both free throws to seal the win.

’88 managed to get a 21-20 lead in the second half but  an and-one play by Aguon gave ’84/’89 the lead back at 26-25, which they managed to keep through-out the game.

Leonard Calvo led ’88 in scoring with 11 points.

2004 – 58, 1992 – 38

William Stinnett and ’04 will be moving on to the quarterfinals with a big win over ’92.
