LEGACY TROUNCES RUFF RYDERS

[sixcol_five_last]

By Robert Balajadia

Team Legacy has not faced many threats this season, standing a top the Guam Women’s Tackle Football League as the only undefeated team.  The Ruff Ryders got their shot at the defending champs on Sunday but things got ugly for the Ryders, fast.

Legacy scored 48 unanswered points to shutout the Ruff Ryders in a one-sided match where the Legacy defense put up 18 of the 48 points. Legacy defensive standouts Linebacker Kineshia Flores, defensive/running back Olivia Flores and defensive end Joneal “jukes” Cruz all made plays on defense and neutralized the Ruff Ryder offense.

The Ruff Ryders were just eight yards away from scoring the first points of the game in the first quarter when quarterback Melissa Purdue was flushed out of the pocket and forced a pass into the area of Legacy all-star linebacker Flores who interrupted the pass and sprinted 92 yards to return it for a touchdown.  Legacy took the early 8-0 in the first quarter and never looked back.

Legacy’s defense played majority of the first half due to their ability to score on the defensive end.  Flores returned a punt 50+ yards in the second quarter right after a dominant defensive stand to put them up 16-0, scoring Legacy’s first two touchdowns sucking any offensive momentum the Ruff Ryders had.

The Legacy offense did not see the field much in the first half and their first offensive possession in the second quarter resulted in points off a 45-yard touchdown run by Gia “the cheetah” Sarusal to further the lead 24-0 after a successful 2-point conversion before the half.

The first two Ruff Ryder plays on offense in the third quarter were bad snaps at center which led to a fumble that was scooped up in the end zone by Legacy’s Cruz to go up 32-0 after a 2-point conversion pass from quarterback Moragn Reyes to a wide open Shawnnel Castro.  Cruz forced a fumble on the next Ryder offensive possession a few plays later.

Legacy wrapped up the evening with a score from Olivia Flores taking snaps at running back, who essentially never left the field playing on both sides of the ball for the games entirety.

Legacy improves to 5-0 with the win while the Ruff Ryders drop to 2-3.

Steel Blazers 41, Lady Spartans 6

In the earlier game, the Steel Blazers handled the Lady Spartans in another one-sided affair.  The Steel Blazers improve to 3-2 with the win while dropping the Spartans to 1-4.
