An early mistake ended up costing the DLX Knights as the IP&E Hal’s Angels squad defeated the Knights 23-22 on a game winning PAT Sunday night in Miller Football League action.

Trailing 22-16, Angels handed the ball off to star defensive back Ryan Bigler, who often takes snaps on offense, to tie the game at 22. The game came down to the foot of kicker David Cruz who catapulted the Angels to the win over the Knights for the second time this season.

The Knights had a safety in the first quarter off a botched snap which ultimately decided the game in the end.

Angels Jarred Meno scored the first touchdown of the game from a 7-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Steve “SP” Phillips.

Knights Joshua Marini reeled in a 37-yard pass to cut the Angels lead 9-8 after a successful 2-point conversion in the second quarter. Marini then caught a 62-yard pass to go up 16-9 after halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Angels got a big defensive lift from Jeofry Limtiaco which allowed running back Mike Pangelinan to punch in the game tying touchdown from one yard out to tie the game at 16.

Knights’ Malcom Walker gave DLX back the lead after hauling in a touchdown pass to go up 22-16. Bigler then delivered for the Knights with the clutch touchdown followed by Cruz’ game winning kick.

The Angels (3-1) will face off against the winless Cars Plus Rams (0-4) next Friday while the Knights (1-3) will play the red hot Pepsi Warriors (4-0)

QUICK HITS

Guam’s Wayne Blas completed his 13th Boston Marathon and 38th marathon overall.
The island’s record holder in the distance, Blas finished this year in 2:35:21.
“I’m very happy with this result because seven months ago, I was sidelined with a stress fracture that kept me out for three months. No running! To come back on an abbreviated marathon build and finish one of the toughest races strong and healthy was a big win for me.”
His time of 2:29:38 at the 2023 Chicago Marathon and World Marathon Majors Age Group Championships stands as the Guam National Record.
