ASIAN-PACIFIC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT DAY 3

Day 3 wrap-up from the Asian-Pacific Baseball Tournament in the Philippines.

(Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga) The competition continued on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 in the 2014 Asia Pacific Middle East Regional Little League Tournament, with the Majors, Seniors, and Big League divisions on the diamonds. Guam’s All Stars in the Majors division took a beating against a strong Korea Team and suffered the 10-0 loss. They are now 1-2 in the tournament.

Guam’s All Stars in the Seniors division suffered its first loss at the hands of the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas (CNMI). CNMI took the 5-4 win in 11 innings. Trailing 3-0 in the top of the 4th came within one scoring two runs off CNMI pitcher Mike Muna; one of those runs; a solo home run by Kyle Martinez over the fence in left center; his second home run of the tournament.

Guam tied it at 3-all in the top of the 6th CNMI pitcher Nathan Camacho. Guam then took the lead when Tristan Aguero hit an RBI single to right scoring Isaiah Cruz. Carl Jamanila, however, was called out at the plate trying to score another run.

Guam could not put it away in the bottom of the 7th went into extra innings tied at 4-all. Gabe Garza came in to pitch the next four innings relieving Guam starter Javin Delgado. CNMI got the game-winning hit in the bottom of the 11th is now 2-1 with the CNMI at 3-0 for the tournament.

In the Big League division, Guam defeated the CNMI, 11-1. Guam starter Jesse Miner dominated on the hill, striking out four to take the win. Francisco Leito suffered the loss. Guam improves to 2-1 in the two round robin format; the team with the best record in the first round playing the team with the best record in the second round for the title.

Over in Girls Softball and the Seniors division, Guam defeated the Philippines, 3-1. Elyze Pocaigue got the win on the mound, Ma Celyn Ojare took the loss. Guam is now 1-1 in the Best-of-Five series, the winner advancing to the World Series.
