BUILDING FROM THE GROUND UP

The Guam High Panthers have been on a short decline in finishing the season after winning the title in 2010 though 2014 is going to be a rebuilding year for the group after losing a wealth of players.

By Michael Cruz

The last four seasons have been historical for the Guam High Panthers. They won a title in 2010 but started to decline in the standings after being runner-ups in 2011, and placing third in 2012 and 2013. The group of Matthew Eaton, Tegan Brown, Juwan Jacobs, Devon Jacobs, Nijee Smith, Chance Horvath, Austy Hines, and Mark Ecija have produced current and possible future collegiate athletes.

The cupboard is not bare though as Guam High always has players for their 30 player maximum roster spot. South Carolina transfer DeAndre Richardson will start at quarterback and returnee TJ Aguon will play both sides of the ball and started as a freshman last year. Lewis Harris was second team all island at TE and Safety and his return is a big help to the Panther squad.

Head coach Jacob Dowdell will use a mixture of the spread-option, double tight-end, single wide-receiver set, and the running game.

The Panthers had a bye in week 1 and will play the defending champions Simon Sanchez Sharks at Okkodo in week 2. The Panthers and sharks will play for the first time since 2012.
