Umatac Discovery Day Motocross

This past Sunday March 9th the beautiful southern village of Umatac was host to the Discovery Day Motocross as part of its Discovery Day celebration. Racing kicked off at noon with an over 40 Vet class and went on for most of the rest of the day with both two and four wheeled classes competing. With lot’s of thrills and spills the motocross races were free to watch and the racers young and old poured it on out on the super cross style course.

High Lights and Results

In the Over 40 Vet class #0 Franklin Reeses aboard a 450cc Yamaha jumped out to a commanding lead over a growing pack of of over forty year olds. Reeses was able to clear all the double jumps which allowed him to easily pull away and take the win. Taking second was Jeff Rios aboard a Honda who had to battle eventual third place finisher Kim Aiken aboard his Kawasaki for that position.

In the 65cc Mini bike class #22 Blaze Aiken went back and forth for the lead with #4 Tobin Perez putting on a spectacular race. Aiken took the win with #23 Jordan Leon Guerrero taking second and Tobin securing third. Taking fourth through seventh respectively were Devin Encina, Owen Turo, Robert Encina, and Jesse Leon Guerrero.

In the Kids Open Mini bike class a three way battle for the lead in both heats saw the majority of the spills and thrills as #1 Stoney Bucek on the Cycles Plus Kawasaki after taking control up front crashed while attempting to get around a few lapped riders. This dropped Bucek to third and allowed #12 Yuna Song aboard her Honda to move into the lead. Coming up fast was #11 Sasha Song who after starting in last had moved all the way up onto the rear fender of the leader Yuna who happens to be Sasha’s older sister.

The two siblings battled with Sasha eventually making the pass and taking the heat one win with Yuna in second. #21 Franklin Perez secured third after Bucek had crashed again finishing in fifth with #75 Owen Rios taking fourth.

In heat two it was #11 Sasha Song back out in front with older sister Yuna right behind him. Bucek who had a bad start moved into the third place position and then quickly made the pass on the #12 of Yuna Song to take second. With just a lap to go it was the leader Sasha Song going down this time allowing the heat one crasher Bucek to take the lead and the heat win. Yuna Song took another second with Perez another third. The early heat two leader Sasha Song remounted to take fifth.

Over all it was the #12 Yuna Song with her two two heat finishes taking the overall win with Bucek second and Sasha Song in third. Franklin Perez took fourth with Ethan Turo fifth and Owen Rios in sixth.

In the Kids Mini Atv class #10 Tori Clark dominated aboard her Apex 90 taking both heat wins for the overall. Taking second was Damian Manibusan with Darian Chang in third. Fourth went to Zion Manibusan with fifth place taken by Emma Song.

In the Open Atv class #1 Robert Bucek took the win aboard the Cycles Plus Suzuki with Honda mounted #5 Marcus Guerrero jr in second. #22 John Gilman took third on his Yamaha with #88 Ray Manibusan fourth and Dongman Chang finishing fifth.

In the Open Motorcycle class the pair of Cycles plus team mates of #59 Caleb Barretto on the Cycles Plus Honda and the #1 of Jr Cepeda on the Cycles Plus Kawasaki soared high up front over the jumps fighting for the lead. The two battled for the entire race with Barretto edging the current and two time Guam motocross champ for the win Cepeda took second with Franlin Reeses on the Yamaha taking third.
