Vipers battle back to take AA Championship

LEO PALACE PARK- After battling back to take a 6-3 win in game two to force a deciding game three the Vipers would stay hot and hold off the Yona Redhawks to take the Budweiser Amateur Baseball League King of the Diamond AA Championship title.
Down 3-1 in the bottom of the 5th inning of game two which was suspended due to rain the Vipers would bring their sticks back to the field as play resumed Sunday afternoon at Leo Palace Resort. Scott Perez would drive in two runs with a rbi single giving the Vipers a 4-3 lead through 5 innings of play.
The Vipers would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the 6th inning with Fred Malaca, Ethan De la Cruz and Brandon Unpingco chipping in base hits to give the Vipers a 6-3 lead. Rick Fernandez would close out the Redhawks in the 7th inning to even the series at 1-1 and push it to a deciding game three.
The Vipers would continue their hot hitting in game three with Steve Diego leading off the game with a double and coming in to score on a rbi single by Ethan De la Cruz. Unpingco would also walk and come around to score to give the Vipers an early 2-0 lead.
In the third inning the Viper’s Gerald Santos would just miss a homerun and settle for a long two rbi double off the wall in left field to give the Vipers a 5-0 lead. De la Cruz would add another hit to lead the Viper’s attack.
The Vipers would extend their lead to 7-0 in the top of the 4th inning with Diego driving in two runs with a rbi single. Scott Perez would single to lead off the inning and Tony Borja would walk before coming around to score on Diego’s base hit.
But the Redhawks wouldn’t go quietly finally getting on the board in the bottom of the 4th inning taking advantage of a hit batter and two errors to score two runs cutting the Viper’s lead to 7-2. They would continue their comeback in the 5th inning with Shane Camacho singling to lead off the inning and coming into score on a rbi fielder’s choice by Xavier Reyes. Kyle Martinez would single to drive in Darren Pablo as the Redhawks got within striking distance at 7-4.
The Vipers would add insurance in the top of the 6th inning with Ron Reyes and Joe Benavente singling to start the inning. Benavente would come around to score on a error to give the Vipers a 8-4 lead.
The Redhawks would push another run across in the bottom of the 6th inning against starter Rick Fernandez. Joe Sablan would single and Camacho would drive him in with a single to chip away at the Vipers lead 8-5.
But it was too little too late as Viper’s reliever Brandon Santos would hold off the Redhawks in the 7th inning to give the Vipers the 2014 Budweiser Amateur Baseball AA Championship.
Jude Santos was MVP and Fernandez picks up the win and Santos the save for the Vipers. Diego lead the offense finishing 2-3 with a double, two runs and a rbi.
Agat Cardinals 2 Rays 1
WP: Josh Aguigui LP: Paul Pangelinan
Strike Zone POG: Austin Sablan 2-3, 2B, 3B, BB
In AAA Championship Series action the Agat Cardinals won a thrilling extra inning pitchers duel in the bottom of the 8th with Austin Sablan driving in the tying run and scoring the winning run as the Cardinal’s force a deciding game three with a 2-1 walk off win.
Davey Pecha and Josh Aguigui combined to hold the Rays offense to 3 hits in the game with Aguigui picking up the win. Rays starter Billy Quenga was just as good limiting the Cardinals to one run in 6 2/3 innings before giving way to reliever Paul Pangelinan. Pangelinan could hold off the Cardinals in the bottom of the 8th inning giving up a two out double to Sablan and the game winning hit to Aguigui to get tagged with the loss.
Sablan finished the game 2-3 with a double, triple, run and rbi to pick up Strike Zone Player of the Game. Pecha kept the Rays in check the first 4 2/3 innings allowing only one hit before giving way to Aguigui. Lance Santos collected two of the three hits for the Rays in the loss.
The winner take all game three for the AAA Championship is scheduled for this Wed 7pm at Leo Palace Resort.

12U Top Gun Baseball All Star Game
Team Red 12 Team Blue 2

(Leo Palace Park)- The Youth 12U Top Gun Jamboree enjoyed sunshine this Saturday with a full day of baseball at Leo Palace Resort. The day kicked off with a free clinic for players in the league and the leagues top players facing off in the 12U Top Gun All Star Game.
Team Red’s starting pitcher Gavin Lim would combine with reliever Ethan Lizama to hold Team Blue to just three hits over 4 innings as Team Red would cruise to 12-2 mercy rule win in four innings. Team Red consisted of the six selected players from the Sumay Santa Rita Braves and Agana Heights Jaguars. Team Blue was made up of six selected players from the Yigo Astros and Sinajana Giants.
Team Blue got on the board early in the first inning with the Rico Miner singling with two outs and coming in to score on a rbi triple by Josh Kephas for a 1-0 lead.
Team Red would answer in the 2nd inning scoring three runs ignited by a long rbi triple off the bat of Andrew Perez. Team Red would pour it on scoring six runs in the 3rd inning and another three runs in the 4th inning to extend their lead to 12-1. Gusto Sablan, Jonah Peredo, Jeraila Martinez and Perez all had rbi hits to lead the offense.
Team Blue managed to push a run across in the bottom of the 4th but it wasn’t enough to avoid the 10 run mercy rule after four innings as the fall to Team Red by a final of 12-2.
Lim picks up Strike Zone Player of the Game limiting the Red team to two hits and one earned over three innings with six strikeouts. Laguana and Perez each had two hits for the Team Blue in the win. Martinez lead the team with three rbi.

Aguerro one hits Lady Rangers

(Leo Palace Park)- In Bud Light Women’s FastPitch weekend action Alex Aguerro outhit the Lady Rangers 2-1 picking up two hits at the plate and limiting the Lady Rangers to only one hit over five innings as Juice rolled to a 9-1 mercy rule win.
Aguerro carried a no hitter into the 5th inning before surrendering a one out single to Aunekah Chaco. Chaco would come around to score on an error but it was too little as Juice won via the 5 inning 8 run mercy rule.
Aguerro picks up Strike Zone Players of the Game going 2 for 2 with a run, rbi and stolen bases and allowed only one hit and no earned runs over five innings. Juice improves to 2-1 on the season and the Lady Rangers drop to 1-2.
In other action the Lady Adahi improved to 2-1 with a 9-6 win over The Team. Judy Taimanglo was 2 for 3 with a rbi triple and two runs scored to earn Strike Zone Player of the Game. Alex Cruz allowed only one earned run with five strikeouts in three innings out of the bullpen to notch the win. Tamisha Fejeran was 2 for 3 with two triples for The Team who drop to 0-2 on the season.
Are You Game stayed unbeaten at 2-0 taking down the Northern Mix in a 18-8 slugfest in the Sunday nightcap. Kiana Rivera was 3 for 3 with four rbi to pick up SZPOG as Are You Game pounded out ten hits in a five inning mercy rule win.
Saij Duenas and Sirena Cepeda both scored four runs for AYG. Kayla Dempsey picked up the win going five innings with seven strikeouts. AYG and Bottomed Out remain the only unbeaten teams on the season. Loulana Diaz was 3 for 3 with two doubles and two runs for Northern Mix who drop to 0-4.
