The GSPN & Wendy’s high school All-Star Basketball game is building up for its historic debut Monday night at the FD Phoenix Center and the players themselves couldn’t be more excited to put on a show for the fans.
“I’m very excited, we’re playing against the best there is in high school so its going to be exciting,” said Guam High Panthers Rodney Taitague, playing under Team Supreme and coach Eddie Pelkey.
“I’m looking forward to the competition,” added Okkodo Bulldogs Aiden Ferrara, also of Team Supreme.
“I just can’t wait to have fun with everyone on the court and to play with everyone for the sport we love,” said JFK Islanders Chris Conner, playing under Team Elite and coach Rey Serafico.
“It’s going to feel good playing ball with high caliber guys, I’m super excited,” said Harvest Eagles Kobe Sotelo, also of Team Elite.
The night will begin with a Futures game at 5 pm, showcasing some the future stars of the game. Then, the All-Star game will commence at 7 pm with exciting performances in-between quarters. A free-throw contest between Guam’s UFC fighters, a skills challenge at halftime, and a half court shot for cash are all in store.
Both members of Team Elite and Team Supreme met Sunday for an exhibition run while getting their uniforms for the first time.
Guam’s top young basketball talent from high school will be put on display for the first time ever so you won’t want to miss any minute of this game or the eventful intermission shows.
“The fans will definitely see a good game. Our big men can definitely get up for some dunks and our guards will put on display their handles and their shooting skills,” said Taitague.
“There are three MVP’s on my team so I’m planning to feed them all game,” laughed Sotelo.
“We’re definitely going to have fun out there, the fans are going to have a good time as well,” said Conner.
