The Hal’s Angels were determined to get the wheels on their offense turning since being shutout in the 2015 season opener, and they did just that against the Cars Plus Rams in a 29-6 victory, with the boys in blue getting their first win of the young season at the Eagles field Saturday afternoon.
It was clear from the opening play that the Angel’s weren’t settling for empty offensive trips as quarterback Steve “SP” Phillips darted through the middle of the defense on a QB keeper for a 29-yard gain.
The Angels ended their opening drive on a 29-yard touchdown pass from SP to Jared Ada. Phillips went 3-of-3 on the drive to give the Angels the 7-0 lead after a successful PAT from kicker DJ Cruz.
Penalties hurt the Angels for majority of the 2nd quarter and the Rams coulnd’t get much going on offense to leave the score still 7-0 for majority of the first half.
With less than five minutes in the first half, the Rams were the beneficiaries of a roughing the kick penalty on 4th down to set them up just 30 yards from pay dirt. Rams quarterback Joseph Careon tried to scramble on the following play, but a host of Angels got to him first while prying the ball out of his hands.
First to the ball was Angels Anthony Nelson, who scooped up the ball and out-ran three Rams offensive players to complete a 68-yard fumble return for touchdown to go up 13-0 after a failed PAT.
The following drive presented more problems for the Rams as Careon tried to hit his receiver Joseph Medler in the middle of the field, but Angels safety Ryan Bigler tipped the ball to himself to haul in the interception to bring it inside the red-zone for the Angels with under two minutes left in the half.
Phillips managed to get a clean look at his open receiver in the middle of the end zone, Storm Rosario, for another score to go up 20-0 at the half.
A defensive dominated 3rd period went by faster than the halftime break and the Angels punched in another touchdown late in the 4th quarter behind Marvin “Crowns” Manibusan from three yards out. A Cruz kick on the PAT gave the Angels a 27-0 lead.

The Rams managed to avoid the shutout in the final four minutes as Careon hit receiver Jeric Abisia on a dump pass and Abisia weaved his way through the thick of the Angels defense and managed to beat Joel “The Great One” Limtiaco on a foot-race to the end zone for the Rams first score.
Angels safety Bigler jumped the route on the 2-point try and took it to the house for an 87-yard return to final the score 29-6.
The Angels improve to (1-1) while the Rams fall to (0-2).
MFL action continues with the Pepsi Warriors (1-0) set to face off agains the Island Eagles (1-0) at the Eagles field at 2 pm Sunday.
