MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS COMING DOWN TO THE FINISH LINE

Round 9 of 10 in the books

PRESS RELEASE – Round 9 of the 10 round 2022 Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships was held this past Sunday at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo. Weather was perfect along with course conditions that were challenging and excellent for another full day of high flying, bar banging racing.

Highlights and results

In the Open Motorcycle class #85 CyclesPlus Kawasaki rider Blaze Aiken and #1 Little Jon Aguon along with current points leader #7 JR Cepeda aboard a Yamaha had a three way battle for the win with Aguon keeping his Kawasaki at the tip of the spear for the win. Aiken took second while points leader Cepeda took third. Heat two saw the three way become a four way fight with #31 Tim Wenden aboard a Ktm joining the heat one lead trio. At the checkers it was Aguon in first for the sweep and Aikens taking second. Wenden took third with Cepeda fourth. Overall Aguon was awarded the overall round 9 win with Aiken taking second and Cepeda third. The rest of the field finished as follows.

After nine of the ten rounds completed #7 JR Cepeda leads in the Opan Motorcycle class championship points with 419 points over #1 Little Jon Aguon with 400 points. #85 Blaze Aiken sits in third in the championships with 385 points.

In the Open Atv class #2 Georgie Santos aboard a Kawasaki took the early lead away from #88 Camillo Lorenzo on his Yamaha with #14 Pierre Banes on a Suzuki in third and CyclesPlus mounted #4 Robert Bucek in fourth. The #2 of Santos was pulling away as he was coming around to complete lap three when he came to a stop with a thrown drive chain. Santos misfortune gave the #88 of Lorenzo the lead back with Banes making moves for the lead. At the finish it was Lorenzo first with Banes and Bucek second and third respectively. Heat two saw the #4 CyclesPlus Suzuki of Bucek work his way from the back to take the heat two win with Banes second and Lorenzo third. Overal Bucek took the round 9 win with Lorenzo second and Banes third. Rest of the field finished as follows.

After nine of the ten rounds completed #4 Robert Bucek with 404 points in the Open Atv championship increases his points lead over #2 Georgie Santos second in the championship with 359 points. Third in the championship points is #88 Camilo Lorenzo with 346 points.

In the Schoolboy/girl class Ktm mounted Local Strains team rider #10 Abraham Guerrero took the win in both heats. Taking second was #8 Kanen Arceo on a Kawasaki with #25 Lawrence Limtiaco in third aboard a Kawasaki. Rest of the Schoolboy class finished as follows.

After nine of ten rounds completed #10 Abraham Guerrero leads the championship in the Schoolboy class with 444 points there by clinching the Schoolboy championship numerically over #25 Lawrence Limtiaco with 350 points. Third in the championship points is #33 Mariana Wenden with 326 points.

In the Open Minibike class #31 Richard Wenden on his Rocky Mountain Precast supported Ktm had yet another serious battle with #18 Jonathan Aguon aboard a Kawasaki. Wenden after battling it out with Aguon took the win with Aguon second and #7 Maddox Monnin finishing third. Rest of the field finished as follows

4th #23 Jonaye Cruz

After nine of the ten rounds completed #31 Richard Wenden leads the championship in the Kids Open Minibike class with 441 points over #18 Jon Boy Aguon with 401 points. Third in the championship points is #23 Jonaye Cruz with 310 points.

In other class results

Open Novice Motorcycle class saw Local Strains team rider #20 Zack Cruz taking the win over #8 Kanen Arceo. Third went to #25 Lawrence Limtiaco. The rest of the field finished as follows

QUICK HITS

Guam national golf team player Aki Matsuno secured second place at the FCG Hawaii World Series championship.

Matsuno’s second place finish earned him an invitation to compete in the FCG Junior Golf Championship to be held in July 2025.

A junior at St. John’s, he is also currently leading the IIAAG high school All-Island golf competition, chasing the coveted individual high school golf title.

Guam Blooded: College freshman Brianne Graves is currently ranked 5th in the nation in the 103-lb DI women’s wrestling rankings. She just beat the defending All-American.
Bri finished high school in Cincinnati, ranked #2 in the nation before signing with North Central College, which is one of the top wrestling teams in the country.
Her Evangelista grandparents are originally from Yigo.
