ROUND 2 OF THE GUAM MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Little Jon Aguon shines in Round 2

PRESS RELEASE – In compliance with the DPHSS 2022-06 guidance memo, Round 2 of 10 of the 2022 Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships was held this past Sunday at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo.

Racing kicked off at 10 am with the day’s event schedule having been split into two sessions with the morning schedule dedicated just for all the kids minibike and kids ATV classes and the afternoon schedule set just for the big bikes and ATV’s. Once again, the hard work from a few great motocross supporters such as Phillips and Sons, Fleet Services and Rocky Mountain Precast to name just a few the wild jump filled course was prepped and in excellent condition for a full day of Monster Energy Guam championship motocross racing.

Highlights and Results

In heat one of two in the Open Motorcycle, #7 JR Cepeda aboard a Yamaha continued his winning heat streak having led every lap unchallenged in heat one. Taking second was the team Cycles Plus Kawasaki rider and defending champ #1 Little Jon Aguon who rode strong despite suffering a rear tire flat.

The start of heat two saw once again Cepeda out front but now being seriously challenged by the #1 of Aguon who had repaired his heat one flat during the break between heats. Midway into the 20-minute plus one lap heat Aguon let the dog loose and took the lead aboard his Kawasaki heading into a highspeed bowl turn. Cepeda tried to retaliate and take back the lead but Aguon was having none of it as he was able o fend off the charges of Cepeda to remain in the lead. At the checkers it was Aguon in first with Cepeda taking second. The rest of the field finished as follows:

Jonboy Aguon took the Open Minibike win during Sunday’s second round of the championships.

In the Open Atv class #2 Georgie Santos on a Kawasaki has been unstoppable having easily taken the round one win and totally dominating once again in round two. Santos has literally and figuratively left his competition in his dust. Taking second coming from the back of the field was defending champ #4 Robert Bucek aboard the Cycles Plus Ltr450.  Third place went to Yamaha mounted #88 Camillo Lorenzo with the rest of the field finishing as follows:

4th #11 John Gilman

5th #75 Austin Fernandez

6th #17 Aaron Blaz

7th #14 Pierre Banes

8th #24 Alan Blaz

In the Schoolboy/girl class Ktm mounted #10 Abraham Guerrero took the win in both heats. Taking second was #25 Lawrence Limtiaco on a Kawasaki with #31 Mariana Wenden taking third on a Ktm.

In the Open Minibike class #31 Richard Wenden on his Rocky Mountain Precast supported Ktm had a serious battle with last year’s 65cc champ #18 Jonathan Aguon aboard a Kawasaki now having moved up to the bigger and much faster Open Minibike class. Wenden was able to hold onto the heat one win, but the youngster Aguon showed he was a serious championship contender by taking the second heat win and the overall round two win.
