MVP STARS SHINE IN TRITON HOOPS LEAGUE

Chris Conner leads Stars to league championship

PRESS RELEASE – The MVP Stars on Saturday night won the Triton Men’s Basketball League Championship with a 92-69 rout of the Navy Ballers in the UOG Calvo Field House. The MVPs used a superior defense to put a strangle hold on the Ballers for three quarters and the Stars cruised to a championship in the 4th period.

The MVPs started off strong holding the Ballers to 14 points in the 1st ten minutes of the game to lead 23-14 after the first 10 minutes of play with Chris Connor of the MVPs scoring 12 points in the opening period. But the MVP defense would get even stronger in the 2nd period, holding the usually high scoring Ballers to 9 points in the 2nd ten minutes while scoring 21 points themselves to lead 44-23 at halftime.

In the third period, both teams had a better quarter of offense for the game, with the Ballers scoring 19 points but the MVPs added 28 points themselves and pretty much put the game out of reach 72-42 to start the 4th period.

With victory in their eyes, the MVP defense came down and the Ballers added 27 points in the final 10 minutes while the Stars scored 20 and won the game 92-69.

The MVPs ended the fall season with a 9-1 record, with their only lost being to the Ballers in the 2nd game of the season (95-84). The Stars now will enter the spring Triton League with an 8 game winning streak in place.

This was the 2nd MVP Star championship in the past 5 seasons of the Triton League, with their last championship coming over the KFC Bombers.

The Ballers finished the season with an 8-2 record and was the #1 Seed for the playoffs.

Chris Connor led the MVPs with 24 points while EJ Acda added 18 for the Stars as well. Merai Howard led the Navy Ballers with 18 points.

The KFC Bombers and MircoFriends tied for 3rd Place in the league with 6-3 records.

The Triton Men’s Basketball League is set to return with a 10 team league in early March of 2024 with the addition of a Guam National Team and Northern Construction to join the already competitive league.
