PANTHERS, EAGLES FIGHT TO 0-0 DRAW

Physical match results in scoreless tie

By Eriele Salas

The top two teams in the IIAAG Girls Soccer League went at it to end the regular season Monday night.

After winning their Friday match against the Harvest Eagles 2-1, the Guam High Panthers were eager to add another win to the books. But with Harvest’s strong defense, their match ended in a draw.

In the first half, the Panthers had more control with the ball. Guam High’s Jordan Ellis was fast on the defense line, as she assisted her team in getting the ball away from possible goals. Harvest’s Caeden Milner and Hayden Thompson were also amazingly aggressive in defending the ball.

Both teams stood out with their physical defense, as they had trouble finding the goal.

Panthers Zoie Terrill and Giselle Dahilig had a total of five close shots, but Harvest’s goalie was on point with her stops. The Eagles Milner, Olivia Haddock and Izzy Sunga also had a total of five shots on goal, but were unable to score.

By the second half, the Panthers and Eagles came back into the game with one thing in mind: the goal. In the last few minutes of the match, a corner kick from Eagles’ Milner was intercepted by Guam High’s goalkeeper.

Guam High’s defense kept the Eagles on their toes, and vice versa.

In the other season-ending match, the Academy Cougar blanked the St. John’s Knights 5-0. Hinengi San Nicolas scored a hat trick for the Cougars while Tori Rapadas scored the other two Academy goals.

The quarterfinal is this Friday with #4 Academy taking on #5 St. John’s. The winner will face #1 Guam High next week in the semifinals with #2 Harvest and #3 Notre Dame duking it out in the other semis.
