34 ATHLETES TAKE CENTER STAGE AT NATIONAL BODYBULDING

Exceptional physiques showcase on stage

By Shania Bulala

Fitness enthusiasts and supporters from across the island packed the ballroom at the RHIGA
Royal Resort to witness the annual NPC Guam National Bodybuilding Championship. Fans cheered as their favorite competitors took the stage, showcasing months of hard work and dedication in pursuit of their fitness goals. Thirty-four contestants took the stage and showcased their physique in a variety of divisions, including classic bodybuilding, physique, and bikini.

Double Win for Slough
To start off the evening, Eric Slough celebrated a double win as he was named the overall
champion in the Men’s Bodybuilding category and the Men’s Classic Physique. “I feel elite. This
was definitely my goal after all the hard work I’ve put into this sport. A few months ago, I could
not have pictured this coming….. But, day by day, step by step, and rep by rep, I finally got what
I’ve been working so hard for,” said Slough.

Slough gives huge credit to his team at Next Level Lifestyle and his command who supported him throughout his entire journey to success. “They kept me going through the last two shows when I thought I couldn’t go any further……I most especially have to give a tremendous shoutout to my coach Big Mike Duay as he’s the man with the plan,” Slough added.

In the men’s physique, Erickson Peregrino took home the title as the overall winner. Peregrino also swept his class and was awarded 1st place in the Open Class B division.

Women Shine Bright
In the women’s wellness category, Paige Crisologo won the overall title in the Women’s wellness division and also placed 1st in a very competitive Women’s Bikini Class A division. “This feels
unbelievable. It feels like I’m dreaming”, said Crisologo. “I did this competition for fun and I
think that was my main goal. I feel like if I came into this competition with only a competitive
mindset and fixated on winning, I would have been disappointed If I didn’t reach my goal…. But
things turned out the way I wanted”, said the overall Women’s Wellness Champion.

Shanika Tophia also had a remarkable night finishing 1st place in both the Women’s Bikini Class C and Masters divisions. Tophia was named the overall Women’s Bikini champion.

QUICK HITS

Guam’s Wayne Blas completed his 13th Boston Marathon and 38th marathon overall.
The island’s record holder in the distance, Blas finished this year in 2:35:21.
“I’m very happy with this result because seven months ago, I was sidelined with a stress fracture that kept me out for three months. No running! To come back on an abbreviated marathon build and finish one of the toughest races strong and healthy was a big win for me.”
His time of 2:29:38 at the 2023 Chicago Marathon and World Marathon Majors Age Group Championships stands as the Guam National Record.
