ATYPICAL ARE KINGS OF TRITON HOOPS LEAGUE

Borja takes league MVP

PRESS RELEASE – Team Atypical was slow getting started on Tuesday night in the UOG Calvo Field House, but they finished strong to capture the title in the Triton Men’s Basketball League with a 93-78 win over the KFC Bombers.

Neither team was hitting many shots from the outside to start the game, and the Bombers took advantage of their inside game to jump out to a 22-18 lead after the first quarter, with six players scoring for KFC in the first quarter. Joe Blas kept Team Atypical close as he scored 12 points in the period, including his only 2 three pointers of the game.

In the 2nd quarter, the Bombers continued to spread the ball around, having 7 players scoring and Ben Borja took over for Joe Blas in the 2nd period, scoring 12 points as well for Atypical and the game was a close 41-40 affair with the KFC Bombers leading.

In the third period, Atypical started to warm up their shooting and spreading ball around and AJ Grape led Atypical with 9 points in the period, including 2 threes while the Bombers kept pace with Team Atypical and trailed 68-65 going into the 4th quarter.

But in the 4th period, KFC’s scoring dried up, only scoring 13 points during the final period while Atypical scored 23 points in the last 10 minutes, led by the “Big Three” of the team, Joe Blas (9 points), Ben Borja (6 points) and Mark Johnson (6 points) and went on to win the game 93-78.
