ESCANO GETS FIRST GUAM TASTE OF PARIS GAMES

Judoka takes to the mat to open up Guam’s competition

Judoka Maria Escano was the first Guam athlete to participate in the Paris Olympic Games, taking to the mats of the Champ-de-Mars Arena in Paris, France at 10 am Monday.

Escano’s match lasted 1 minute, 58 seconds as she succumbed to a Ippon – Hadaka-jime (strangle from behind) from Mariana Esteves (Guinea, West Africa). Esteves went on to drop her next match by an identical 10-0 score.

UP NEXT

Pro triathlete Manami Iijima-Martin is next up for Guam on Wednesday in the women’s triathlon through the city of Paris starting at 4 pm Guam time.

Then in Friday, Regine Tugade runs the 100m on the track around 6:35 pm Guam time. Joe Green takes to the track on Saturday at 6:30 pm Guam time.
