“I’m really proud of us representing Guam here in Saudi Arabia and for this win,” said Hinengi San Nicolas, who scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 42ndminute. “We all worked together and played hard for each other and for Guam most especially. All we can do now is look forward and keep this momentum going.

“It felt really great to get the result; we all put our hearts out on the field and played to the best of our abilities. I’m really proud of the team and our efforts. We can still improve as a team and individually, so I look forward to the team making those improvements for an even better match Monday,” San Nicolas added.

San Nicolas scored the second of Guam’s three goals. Teammates Iliana Figueroa and Serenity Wusstig scored Guam’s other goals in the win.

“This is a great result for this team that has worked hard to make improvements as both individual players and as part of the team,” said Chyna Ramirez, Head Coach of the Guam U17 Women’s National Team. “I’m proud of the way they played overall and how they managed the match even after Saudi Arabia scored first. We will have two more days to rest and train before our next match, so we will maximize this to make the necessary adjustments to continue improving our performance on the pitch.

“I’d really like to also thank the staff for fostering a professional environment for the players here in Saudi Arabia. This training camp and these two matches are really a valuable opportunities for both players and staff to continue learning and developing. SAFF has been an incredible host, and we appreciate everything they have done to make sure we have a good experience in Saudi Arabia,” Ramirez added.

Guam returns to the stadium to play its second of two matches against Saudi Arabia Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. local time (1:30 a.m. +1 day Guam time).
