GUERRERO/PADMOS ARE PACIFIC JAM BEACH QUEENS

By Shania Bulala

The 2024 Pacific Jam Beach Volleyball Tournament came to a close on Sunday at Jimmy
Dee’s beach courts as teams from Guam, Yap, and Palau competed throughout the weekend for
the championship title.

Women’s Doubles Champs
Though the heat was blazing, it did not stop Kara Guerrero and Anneke Padmos from claiming
first place in the women’s doubles on Sunday in the Pacific Jam Beach Volleyball Tournament.
The pair defeated a competitive duo consisting of Kendra Byrd, who had just recently represented Guam in beach volleyball at the 2024 Micronesian Games, and her partner Gaby Shacoski in straight sets, 21-11, 21-13.

The match opened up with intensity from both teams as they rallied, chasing point after point.
Padmos and Guerrero began to show dominance as they utilized their strong serves and on-point defense to take control of the game. The dynamic duo managed to keep up the momentum, securing the first set 21-11.

In the second set, the pair continued to showcase their teamwork and skill, ultimately securing the victory with a final score of 21–13. “I’m really proud of our performance today. We were able to find our rhythm together against some really impressive teams throughout the tournament,” said Padmos.

With this actually being their first tournament they played together, Guerrero and Padmos demonstrated excellent teamwork and communication on the sand. “We had a learning curve over the last month or so trying to figure out each other’s playing style and what our strengths were and trying to play to each other’s strengths,” said Padmos. “I think this tournament we really finally came together and trusted each other.”

While they may be a new pair, they showed that they are a force to be reckoned with. The duo looks forward to competing in future tournaments and continuing to build on their success as a team.
