LEGACY VOLLEYBALL PERFORMS WELL IN P.I.

Guam club fairs well in the Philippines

Manila, Philippines – The Legacy Volleyball Club from Guam had a great showing at the Inaugural Fil-Am Volleyball Unity Tournament, held in Manila, Philippines, from June 10-14, 2024, according to head coach Al Garrido.

Competing against six different club teams from around the Philippines, the Legacy Volleyball Club showcased their talent, resilience, and sportsmanship across multiple divisions, achieving significant success despite facing tough competition.

Tournament Highlights

– Legacy 17s: The team secured a bronze medal in the 18s division. One of the youngest team which was comprised mostly 15- and 16-year-olds, Legacy 17s overcame numerous challenges and demonstrated their competitiveness, falling just short of making the finals. Team co-captain Keivi Susuico earned the Best Server Award for her booming jump-serves securing aces and easy points for her team.

– Legacy Red 14s: The Red team took home the bronze medal in the 14s division, with defensive specialist Aryani Magbanua recognized as the Most Outstanding Libero. Magbanua combined great serving pressure and countless defensive saves to earn the recognition.

– Legacy Grey 14s: The Grey team finished in 4th place in the 14s division, with Team Captain Ava Quinata earning the Best Server Award for her numerous aces and constant pressure on the opposing team’s serve reception.

The tournament concluded on June 14 after five days of intense competition. The Legacy teams displayed their toughness and gained invaluable experience against well-established club teams, reflecting the fruits of their hard work since February, training two to three days a week.

Coach Garrido was named the Top Coach in the 14s division, further highlighting the club’s excellence and commitment to developing young athletes.”Our girls rose above the challenge and gained amazing international experience through this tournament. The teams they played were seasoned club teams with years of experience under their belt. This kind of tournament can only improve their game play. Our girls created bonds and friendships not only among themselves but also with their new sister club teams in the Philippines. This experience has been invaluable for their growth as athletes and as individuals.”

The Legacy Volleyball Club extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Guam Visitor’s Bureau, Pepsi Bottling Company, Bank of Guam, Soyami, MailHub, American Passports, Pacific Rim, and all the parents and friends for their unwavering support and encouragement.
