MVP ROLLS TO TRITON MEN’S HOOPS

Joe Blas pops 28 in title game

PRESS RELEASE – Team MVP won the Triton Men’s Basketball League championship on Thursday night in the UOG Calvo Field House with a 112-99 win over Northern Construction I. The MVPs got out to a 10-point lead in the first quarter and pretty much held the lead and built upon it the whole game.

Team MVP only started with 6 players in the first quarter, but the six started with 35 points in the first period to go out to 35-24 lead in the first 10 minutes with a balance attack with all six players scoring in the period. In the 2nd period, the MVPs gained a player and they continued to hold the lead, even when Jake Diwa got hot for Northern Construction I with 13 points in the quarter, but Joe Blas scored 11 for Team MVP to balance the scoring and MVPs outscored Northern by 1 point in the 2nd 10 minutes 28-27 to lead by 63-51 at halftime.

In the second half, Team MVP added one more player to get to 8 players for the game, and it was much of the same, with Team MVP staying out in front and adding to their lead, winning the point battle in the 3rd quarter 28-21 and pretty much putting the game away 91-72 heading in the 4th quarter. Northern Construction I won the 4th quarter 27-21 but it was too little, too late and the large Northern Construction crowd had to go home disappointed with a 112-99 loss.

Team MVP was led by Joe Blas with 28 points on the night, followed by Mark Johnson with 22. Jake Diwa led Northern Construction who had 36 points.

Team MVP went 9-0 for the season, with a 3-0 record for the playoffs. Northern Construction I went 9-3 for the season and had a 4-2 record for the playoffs.

The MVPs won their second straight Triton League championship with a lot of national team players on the roster this time, getting ready for the summer National Team schedule.

The Triton Men’s Basketball League will return in the fall, with a new season starting in late October.

Team MVP wins another Triton Men’s Basketball League, going undefeated in the season.
