NATIONAL SQUAD CAPS OFF LIBERATION VOLLEYFEST

3rd annual tournament draws a slew of local teams

By Paradis Jolie Fejerang

Liberation Volleyfest 2024 has just completed its third annual event. As a lead of the tournament, Steven Pangelinan shared that this particular time frame was chosen with the dual-intention of providing off-islanders with the opportunity to join in during the summer as well as wanting to base itself a local holiday to celebrate volleyball on Guam.

The tournament began on July 13 and consisted of ranging categories for both adult and youth to participate from male and female teams for U14, U16, and adults as well as a co-ed adult competition.

The men’s division ended the tournament with a quick victory by the Guam Men’s National Team over team Adåhi. Team Guam’s advantages over Adåhi came from their size in numbers and practiced athletes still in high school or fresh out.

Antonio Eggurola and Aiden McDonald guided the men’s national team with their strong play.

With only a couple substitutes available for Adåhi, the team conserved their energy throughout the two sets, but showed off with intimidating hits as their men loomed over their opponents. Regardless, the Guam men acted quickly to end the evening as early as they could with a 25-21 first set win and followed with a greater 25-14 second set to close out the tournament.
