PARK, JACOT TAKE 1ST ROUND AMATEUR GOLF LEAD

Tight battles at the top after opening round

By Matthew Lorenzo
The first round of the 2024 Guam Amateur Golf Championship was met with sunny skies all morning long at Finest Gold Resort in Yigo Sunday.

This tournament boasts some of Guam’s best young (and not so young) talent, and this year the GNGF added a men’s senior division. Energies were high as shots sliced through the air, cheers from contestants and the sound of drives being hit could be heard all morning. After tallying up scores the victor of round one is Eugene Park and defending women’s champion Tyanna Jacot.

Crowded Leaderboard

As expected, the young guns are on top of the men’s leaderboard with Eugene Park the top man after a one-over 73, 35 on the back 9. Right behind are defending champ Ivan Sablan and Redge Camacho, carding 74’s. Stussy Shiroma shot an impressive 76 to be right there with the big boys.

Two-Lady Race

Also as expected, defending champ Tyanna Jacot and fellow high schooler Mina Manibusan are going at it with Jacot holding a one-stroke lead.

The big difference is Jacot’s birdies opening up both nines.

Round 2 takes place at Onward Talofofo Golf course next week Saturday with the third and final round at CCP on Sunday.
